Taking ACT 235 even if not employed as armed guard?

Hi everyone.

Is it possible for one to take an ACT 235 course BEFORE becoming employed as an armed guard or in some other capacity that requires the carry of a weapon?

I am not currently employed in any such capacity, but would like a change in careers and have been thinking about getting into the security business. Would I be able to sit in on an ACT 235 course in anticipation of future work in the security field?

Yes, you just pay for it yourself. around $500.00-$600.00

That is what I did. I completed Act 235 and went to an armored truck company near me and I got a job in 10 days. It is only part time to start 3 days a week but are days are between 8-11 hours long. I also get OT when they have call offs. Pay is low but better than nothing.
