Default Springfield Armory GI High Capacity - .45ACP

I wanted a vintage WW II .45, as a companion to my M1 Garand (mfg in 1943) and 1942 16" bayonet. After doing some research it looks like an authentic .45 from that era will either be incredibly expensive or rebuilt so many times it looses much of the identity.

So, as a replica, I'm wondering what folk's thoughts are concerning the Springfield Armory's GI Series? I kind of like the idea of the model with a high capacity magazine (PW9701LP 13+1), even though it isn't truly authentic, I'm a little paranoid about running out of bullets! Just can't have too much ammunition.

I been looking around at them online also. I was thinking about getting one. There not really expensive an they seem to have great reviews. Thats really all I found. I like the look of a classic 1911.

    Little off topic but:
Im pulled between one of those or a .45 acp Baby Eagel( Made from Magnum Research) I think im going to go with the 1911 series though. More options to custom. But, dont have the Mag cap. of other autos. But I got a compact pistol. Im looking for something I can make my own, An shoot closer groups.

I'll go ahead & (friendly) warn you don't call a high cap 1911 authentic.
People will nut up on you. A true 1911 is a single stack w/7rds
For a high cap. you would need a double stack mag which
is everything but authentic. There will be people pissed by you
using 1911 & high cap. in the same sentence. You'll find out
quick that's blasphemy & punishable by God only knows!

PS: The GI is your best affordable option!

If your looking at a Springfield and want that classic look, I'd recommend a Mil-Spec, as it has upgrades that make it more usable. See http://forums.1911forum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=29

    Default Springfield Armory GI

The Springfield GI is a fine choice for your needs, no need to upgrade. You want more capacity, carry more mags.

Agree with both. For a couple bucks the mil-spec is a better deal with a couple refinements and better sights.

If you can afford the extra few dollars the Mil-Spec version is worth the extra $$$

I bought a G.I around christmas. I have no complaints with it. You can't beat the price, and if you want you can a new sights from brownells for a good price. Not sure how much a gunsmith would charge to stake in the front sight, but for now im not complaining about the sights.

Thanks for the input, I think I'll pass on the high capacity model and take a look at the GI, Mil Spec, and Loaded in the Parkerized 5" BBL. I live in Clearfield County (100 mile marker on I-80) and have checked the local shops, but didn't find any of these.

Is there a place or two in the Pittsburgh area that might have them? I get down there fairly frequently, but don't know who carries what. I know there are slim pickin's thanks to the nitwit and the other gnomes, but thought I'd ask.

there are plenty of 8-round 1911 mags that retain the same length as the 7-rounders.
I like the CHIP McCORMICK POWER MAG+
the built in base pad is nice.
and carrying a spare is recomended regardless of mag cappacity
