Your opinion/experience with Wolf ammo
Ive used the search option for this but didnt find what i was looking for, so....Im looking to purchase some .45 ACP rounds for range use (i have my home defense/carry ammo taken care of). I found good prices on Wolf ammo, but ive heard that its not good and heard that its ok. If its ONLY for the range/target shooting, i should go with a 1000 rd case of this in 230gr FMJ for $223.22 from the sportsmen's supply right? What do you think? maybe different deal, place to get it cheaper, all input welcome here....

Re: Your opinion/experience with Wolf ammo
Haven't shot any in a handgun, but I have shot 7.62x39mm (SKS) and .223 (AR) with no problems or issues.

Re: Your opinion/experience with Wolf ammo
wolf ammo topics should be a sticky , anyhow someone will stop in and say how uncle harry shot wolf in his custom tactical 2000 space modulator and the 1st rd blew the gun up killing uncle harry and everyone in a 10 mile radius.
Other than that , I've shot the 223 , 7.62x54r , 7.62x39 , 45acp , 9x18 and happen to like it very much thank you. Trouble with the wolf 45acp ammo is this , one day when I was buying it it was about 6 bucks a box , now it is somewhere around 12 to 13 bucks a box and that is what bugs me

Re: Your opinion/experience with Wolf ammo
this was recently brought up on another forum, and someone made the point, like wmg said, there will be people that chime in to slam wolf ammo with "my uncles cousins sisters friend" had this happen, but noone could step up and give a bad example of something that THEY have had happen, other than dirtines from not exercising routine maintinance.
i personaly like wolf ammo. .02

Re: Your opinion/experience with Wolf ammo
It's fine for practice, but I wouldn't use it in a class unless I had no other choice.
Nor would I use it for defensive purposes unless I had no other choice.

Re: Your opinion/experience with Wolf ammo
I have a friend who has 15K of wolf through one of his AR15's. he changed the extractor at 10K "just because" of the controversy about extractors and such. It looked fine (no visible issues).
Thekatar's recommendations are what I follow except that if you're rifle runs OK with it such as is the case with my friend, it's probably OK to use it in a class. I would not use it in a class in a rifle that wasn't "proven" to run it OK (several thousand rounds worth).

My Opinion on Wolf...
Just shoot the damn stuff If it works use it!
Granted most of my experience is with .223 and 7.62x39, i have yet to have a issue with it.
*Exception: I had a lot of problems with pierced primers with 2 of my Yugo SKS's. Whether or not it was a problem with the ammo, it was solved by reshaping the head of the firing pin. (They had a trapezoidal cross-section, so i made them spherical )

Re: Your opinion/experience with Wolf ammo
Folks have had troubles with winchester , federal , damn near all of them at one point or another
was it the gun or the ammo ??? the world may never know
I do know that winchester over the course of their time has recalled a bit of ammo
so personally I may rather shoot wolf than winchester based on the number of recalls
I'm not saying winchester is bad ... I'm just saying
