The big take-away in this case is that the public at large hears "machine gun" and their brain just defaults to "guilty." As evidenced by this case's jury. In the days leading up to the verdict, Matt posted several updates on Youtube about how his defense absolutely destroyed the prosecution and made fools out of the ATF. I'm sure they did, in his and our eyes. The problem is everyone in the jury made up their minds on the first day of trial. Machine gun = guilty.

NFA reform is a long, long way away as long as the public at large sees machine guns as the sole domain of criminals.

Of course I am certain that the prosecution made 100% sure there was not a single pro-2A gun enthusiast seated on that jury, to seal Matt's fate.

    26 U.S. Code § 5845 -
    . . .
"(b) Machinegun The term “machinegun” means any weapon which shoots, is designed to shoot, or can be readily restored to shoot, automatically more than one shot, without manual reloading, by a single function of the trigger. The term shall also include the frame or receiver of any such weapon, any part designed and intended solely and exclusively, or combination of parts designed and intended, for use in converting a weapon into a machinegun, and any combination of parts from which a machinegun can be assembled if such parts are in the possession or under the control of a person."

CRS Firearms is a SOT, the ones he was promoting weren't anything more than a drawing on metal with no machining done.

I*m finding different pictures on the net. Some are the outline printed on metal with black ink. Some are the outline etched deeply into the metal. Those almost look like *punch out* plastic parts. My opinion is neither should matter unless it is cut out, but I didn*t sit on the jury.

Gunlawyer posted the definition of MG, the part that applies is any part or parts used to convert to a machinegun. Lightning links have no other legal use, they aren't pen holders they aren't bottle openers etc
