Default Approval App. For Firearm Purchase

I recently went to purchase a firearm from a local store, and my application was "delayed". They said it would be approved within 15 working days, but it's been over a month. Is this common? Is there a way to check on it? The shop says no.

Also, (forgot to ask this), is it PA who handles this, or the Sheriff's department?

Thanks HG. Sounds like either they lost me in the system or the '15 days' is in government time. If I don't hear back soon, maybe I'll try having a different shop run another check.

Sounds like you need to contact the shop now and ask what is happening. Maybe the shop heard back but forgot to tell you.

You may need to file the challenge form.

I'm not sure that trying another shop to run another check is wise until you get this first situation cleared up.

It is important that you contact the shop where you tried to make the purchase to try and determine the actual status of the check ASAP.

State law now provides that the Challenge form must be submitted to the PICS Challenge Unit within 30 days of the date the individual is denied.

does anyone know the rules, in NJ for target range on your own property,
distances etc. NJ Title 13 does not address this and can't find info anywhere.

I talked to them (the shop) 4 days ago, that's when they said they haven't heard anything, and told me there's nothing that can be done except sit on my ass and wait. I can understand being a few days after the 15, but a whole month seems a little ridiculous.

Your dealer need to do a better job communicating with you. You have either been denied, or put into research (most likely, IMO). Either way, you are entitled by law to challenge the decision, and the dealer should have the forms on hand for you to do so. If your dealer is not familiar with these types of situations, you should find a new one that is.
