Re: I Love Duracoat !
Yep , when i bought it it was pitted and hadnt been cleaned in years. It was discolored all over so i stripped it and did the duracoat. Pistol looks great now. Shoots great as well.

Re: I Love Duracoat !
riverpirate, have you shot the gun, cleaned it, carried, or simply used it like normal? the reason i ask is i finished a coat with some of that stuff from brownells, put it in the oven and all of that just like the instructions said. when i was putting it back together, any little ding would remove the finish. i even flaked some off with my fingernail! so im wondering if this finish is the good stuff, and whether you highly recommend it.

Re: I Love Duracoat !
I redid another gun with it about 6 months ago ( my primary carry ) It worked great. That was a polymer gun. The Star BM I just did. I used 5 coats and bake between each coat. I have shot it since and it was fine. You should wait 4-6 weeks before heavy use when you do metal , but with baking normal use seems to hold up.
The big thing is the prep. I clean the entire gun using Brakekleen. I use almost a entire can to clean it. Once clean only handle it wearing gloves ( nitrate ). If it has any oil on it what so ever it will not hold up good. Even oils from your skin will hurt it. Polymer seems to be much easier to do and holds up better than metal , but hell for a gun that I paid $179 for , spent $30 between paint and cleaning. It looks nice and works. No longer posting

Re: I Love Duracoat !
well i followed the instructions on brownells tutorial thingy, i did a few coats, but not in and out of the oven. the online vidoe showed the guy drying with a hairdryer in between coats, so thats what i did. then i baked it for about an hour if i remember correctly, let it sit for a few days, when i handled it i noticed it coming off. i thought it was spotless, and drenched it with brownells TCE cleaner/degreaser, but still had poor results. im guessing you have to bead blast it like they do on the video. so it was my fault. now im trying to decide whether i want to spend
around 200 dollars to get it done somewhere...anybody know of a good place?
