Schuylkill LTCF wait time? Transport without?
I turn 21 in a month and am wondering on the wait time for a LTCF in Schuylkill county? I have a spotless record without so much as a speeding ticket on it. I have my first pistol on layaway and would like to pick it up on my birthday.
My dilemma is the shop I purchased it at is in Pittston, I'm staying with family over the weekend after purchase and then am going back to state college for school. From what I understand I can only transport to and from range, or from a shop to my house. Am I legally allowed to transport between my familys house and my school apartment without an LTCF if I cannot get it same day?Stupid kills. (But not often enough to make a real improvement.)

Get used to it, there are a lot of them.
That said, I can't help but wonder whether or not you two have had a misunderstanding.
You can transport, unloaded, without a LTCF, but only to a very small set of exceptions, per 18 Pa.C.S. 6106...
18 Pa.C.S. § 6106: Firearms not to be carried without a license
(a) Offense defined.-- (1) Except as provided in paragraph (2), any person who carries a firearm in any vehicle or any person who carries a firearm concealed on or about his person, except in his place of abode or fixed place of business, without a valid and lawfully issued license under this chapter commits a felony of the third degree. (2) A person who is otherwise eligible to possess a [FN1] valid license under this chapter but carries a firearm in any vehicle or any person who carries a firearm concealed on or about his person, except in his place of abode or fixed place of business, without a valid and lawfully issued license and has not committed any other criminal violation commits a misdemeanor of the first degree.
(b) Exceptions.--The provisions of subsection (a) shall not apply to:
...
(8) Any person while carrying a firearm which is not loaded and is in a secure wrapper from the place of purchase to his home or place of business, or to a place of repair, sale or appraisal or back to his home or place of business, or in moving from one place of abode or business to another or from his home to a vacation or recreational home or dwelling or back, or to recover stolen property under section 6111.1(b)(4) (relating to Pennsylvania State Police), or to a place of instruction intended to teach the safe handling, use or maintenance of firearms or back or to a location to which the person has been directed to relinquish firearms under 23 Pa.C.S. § 6108 (relating to relief) or back upon return of the relinquished firearm or to a licensed dealer's place of business for relinquishment pursuant to 23 Pa.C.S § 6108.2 (relating to relinquishment for consignment sale, lawful transfer or safekeeping) or back upon return of the relinquished firearm or to a location for safekeeping pursuant to 23 Pa.C.S. § 6108.3 (relating to relinquishment to third party for safekeeping) or back upon return of the relinquished firearm.
Does any of that sound like it would apply to your situation?

I have no idea what the turnaround time will be on your LTCF application, but the easy answer is to get your license first, then get the firearm. Most Sheriffs are pretty quick about it.
By example, here in York I dropped off my app on Friday and picked up my license on Monday. While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

Re: Schuylkill LTCF wait time? Transport without?
That sounds exactly like my dilemma, from one house to another. So I can technically transport it in a secure container unloaded and out of reach? I realize the chances of me getting pulled over is slim to none as it hasn't happened yet but im not known as the luckiest person so I do like to know the law.

Re: Schuylkill LTCF wait time? Transport without?
It doesn't say "from", it says "moving from". As in relocating. Like, all your furniture, clothes, etc. That kind of moving. I have no idea what (or where) your legal residence is. That's why I suggested getting your LTCF first. It eliminates all the crap and aggravation. While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

Re: Schuylkill LTCF wait time? Transport without?
I fully plan on getting my LTCF first, I just was curious as to my legal ability to transport if it takes longer than it should. Thanks for that correction though, I sometimes forget how important small words like that are in legal writing.
