Hard Chrome?
I have been reading posts on other sights (WTF?) about getting an XD or a Glock hard chromed.
Has anyone here had their XD or Glock hard chromed?
I think the hard chrome gives tighter tolerances, right?
What other advantages are there to having either of these pistols hard chromed?
Thanks. And yes, I can be fairly stupid at times.~ Luke... Come to the dark side... We have cookies! ~

Re: Hard Chrome?
Yes, I visit that site frequently although I have never posted there. I prefer to come back to this site with my questions.
Since there are not very many parts that could be hard chromed (you're really stuck on the work HARD, eh Jmiro? ) I do not think it would add much weight.
Then again I do not know, which is why I am asking for advice.
Not sure if a Glock can be improved upon. I purchased a LOT of accessories for my Glock 31 years ago. Guess what? It is now put together with all the factory parts!~ Luke... Come to the dark side... We have cookies! ~

Re: Hard Chrome?
Can't blame you...I've seen some pretty amazing things in other places.
As far as chroming...why?
To each his own, just don't hold your gun sideways when you fire.
Chroming, in terms of weight on something so small could be measured in grams if that. The toleranceing is what I'd be worried about. As far as the benifits of doing so...it'll look spiffy.
I've had car parts chromed here...http://www.paulschrome.com/
Right here in good ol PA & they are able to do plastic too. They are the best in the country as far as I'm concerned and alot of other people think so as well.Last edited by P89; December 13th, 2008 at 08:19 PM.

Re: Hard Chrome?
Robar makes an alloy frame. I think.
From chroming motor cycle parts i would agree with P89.
Chroming does not have an even finish. So you would probaly have to lap(use compound) it to make sure the slide was not to tight.
Reasons:
Chrome has a rep of taking a beating and not showing wear.
Easy to clean.
You want to be all gansta and need some more bling! (see also diamond inlays)Last edited by jmiro; December 13th, 2008 at 08:31 PM.

Re: Hard Chrome?
Chrome will build up mating surfaces a bit, but at least in the Glock, it wouldn't be enough to make much difference.
Keep in mind that if you are sending a pistol out for plating, you'll need to ship through a UPS or FedEx hub, and send it overnight mail, not ground or 3-day, and per law you have to declare it is a pistol. UPS Store will tell you to pound sand, probably even if you just need to send the slide and barrel.
CCF Raceframes. This is what Robar uses. There are some horror stories on the Brian Enos Glock forum. I wouldn't count on one working without a good gunsmith. Glocks should not need gunsmithing.Removed NRA Life Member pic. LaPierre and Chris Cox are ruining NRA.
