    Default 9mm Self Defense Load

I realize that, if one is hit by a 9mm hollow point, it probably doesn't matter what size it was. Do you have ammo that you would recommend prefer for self defense in 9mm. (I realize that today it might be any hollow point that you can find) but under normal situations what would you recommend. I was going to post this under ammo and reloading but it seems it is all about reloading so if it doesn't fit here please move this post. Thanks for your thoughts.

people tend to love the Federal HST & Speer Gold Dots, but it's what your gun likes is what you should shoot, really...my gun might love both hst and gold dots, but your gun might not eat either.

I would love to get a box of those Federal HST's. Everywhere I check they are sold out.

But yeah it's up to your gun, depending on what it is, it'll take everything and be happy. It's also up to you though, grouping might be better with one kind over another....Also which is cleaner ect. Lesser recoil could play a role too.

Like you said earlier, they all will shoot. Just buy a few boxes of different brands and test them out. Easier said than done I understand. So you might want to just try one brand and see if they feed reliably than great stick with that brand until you feel like you want to try a different. It really doesnt matter like others have said and yourself have said, buy what feeds in your gun all the time, everytime.

    Winchester Ranger 124 gr +p+
    Federal Hydra-Shok 124gr
Remington Golden Sabre (Bonded) 124 gr +p

Those are my favorite from best to "least best"

All of them are proven to be incredibly reliable and amazing penetrators/expanders. I trust my life to any of those rounds listed a million times over.

I currently carry the ranger in my G19 (carry piece) and the Hydra Shok in my CZ75B (bedside gun).

Pick any of the premium hollowpoints, find the one that works best in your gun, and you'll be well protected.

    Federal HST
Winchester Bonded PDX1 (the choice of the FBI in .40, and my wife in .45 ACP)
    Speer Gold Dot
    Remington Golden Saber
    Winchester Ranger

All are top notch, all will do as well for you as a 9mm can do.

I use Speer 147 gr. Gold dot hollow points in my 9. I've tested them shooting through different targets.( fruit, woods, ect.) As well as hydra shocks. I think the Hp's are good for my gun. An proven to me the difference. Try it out for yourself. Results will show, if you want to see what each one does shooting into an through different material.

    Hope that helps some

Personally I carry Federal HST in 147gr, my secondary round is Hornady TAP in 147gr also. Also the Remington Golden Sabers get put on the back shelf alot of times by people and they are also a very good SD round.

I have to agree with everyone else, whatever your gun likes. I shoot Federal Hydra-Shok, most of my guns seem to like them.
