One of the Canadians made the shot, Name is Rob Furlong. It was actually the third shot that killed the enemy. The second shot hit his backpack.

Furlong used THIS McMillan TAC-50 Bolt Action.

I heard about this on Future Weapons. The American used a new .50 cal computerized aiming system. It factors in wind speed, bullet weight, muzzle velocity, even the rotation of the Earth to calculate where the bullet will impact. The host of the show pulled a 900 yrd shot on a man sized target with the first round.

Here is one for you guys:

    Female sniper

This nineteen-year-old ex-cheerleader (now an Air Force Security Forces Sniper) was watching a road that led to a NATO military base when she observed a man digging by the road. She engaged the target (i.e., she shot him). Turned out he was a bomb maker for the Taliban and he was burying an IED that was to be detonated when a US patrol walked by 30 minutes later. It would have certainly killed and wounded several soldiers.

The interesting fact of this story is the shot was measured at 725 yards. She shot him as he was bent over burying the bomb. The shot went through his butt and into the bomb which detonated; he was blown to pieces. The Air Force made a motivational poster of her:

(Folks, that's a shot 25 yards longer than seven football fields!)
And the last thing that came out of his mouth...was...his ass!

All those shots were great and required the right equipment and talent, but, how about Billy Dixon? On June 6, 1874 at the Second Battle at Adobe Walls he shoot a Kiowa of his horse at a distance that was measured by U.S. Army surveyers at 1538 yards. The shot was made with a .50-90 Sharps Model 1874 rifle. No scope was used. There was an aperature sight on the rifle tang. Bullets range in weight from 425 grs at a blazing 1400FPS to a 550 gr. at 1275 FPS. Figure the ballistics.
    Mighty fine shooting.
