IDPA for rifles?
I have been searching google as well as this site but haven't found an answer. Are there competitions that are like IDPA that also utilize rifles? Maybe starting out with rifles and transitioning to pistols? I am a newb to competition shooting but this is something that I think I would enjoy.

Keystone Sportsmans in Muncy does a carbine shoot. It is essentially an IDPA course but you use carbines. It is not sanctioned by IDPA, but it is fun.
Be safe (and diversified).

Langhorne Rod and Gun has a practical rifle shoot - they do pistol transitions too.
look into IPSC (USPSA) 3 gun - they have good rifle matches too.
Topton used to tun a 10 stage IPSC rifle match too

Yes, there are. I'm not a competition shooter, but I've read some AAR's from tactical three gun courses that sound pretty fun. I think most of them are team events though.

Our local club will be having a 3-gun match this month in an IDPA style. Transitions will entail boxing a pistol and picking up your rifle/shotgun. The last match we had like this was fun.

Re: IDPA for rifles?
I am liking the USPSA 3 gun Competitions from watching a few videos on youtube but i guess what I'm really looking for is a competition (if it even exists) that is set up like IDPA where you are shooting around obstacles/from cover with the rifle then transitioning to pistol with the rifle still slung on your shoulder to finish out the stage. I guess it would be like a tactical competition or something.
When I get more training under my belt I will be getting into USPSA 3 Gun.
