Default What does it cost a dealer to do a PICS check?

Not too long ago a dealer at a show had a great deal on a rifle. Said I would take it and when I sat down the dealer told me the total which didn't sound right. Turns out he said that the PICS check would cost $30.00 plus tax?? He told me that the state raised their prices and that's what he had to charge. I told him deals off and walked away.

Can someone educate me as to how much a PICS check should cost? I've had 2 local dealers charge me nothing once and 5.00 at another place with no tax. I really would like to have something in writing for the Valley Forge show.

It is a combination of two fees.

    #1 The background check $2.00
#2 The firearms surcharge $3.00 per firearm.

#2 applies to firearms the dealer is selling and collecting sales tax on.

#2 does not apply to transfers.

BTW......state sales tax does not apply to transfers.

These fees are not subject to sales tax as they are fees.

When we sell firearms we do not charge any more than $2 + $3/firearm.

So if you buy 3 firearms at the same time it is 2+3+3+3 = $11

Many dealers will charge 5+5+5 = $15 .....which is not accurate.

As long as you stay in my store that PICS approval # is good for as many firearms as you would like....so it is $2 + $3/firearm.

Thank you for the intel!! If a Sheriff charges 5.00 for a PICS check, I take it that par for the course. That's unless someone says otherwise.

Good to go I say!! We need more dealers like you! It's a shame some dealers try to hide behind the state as a way of generating profits.

I do not charge anything for the Check, if the gun total is over 500.00

Any weapon that I ever bought from a store besides big box stores just include the pics fee in the sale price (IE they charge 250 for a shotgun, it is 250.00+tax)

    Transfers are 20.00 usually.

If buying from a gun show dealer, I would expect to pay 5.00... unless it is a non-ffl then its no transfer for long guns.

WE DO NOT FLUFF OUR GUN PRICES TO COVER THE PICS FEES.

WE DO NOT FLUFF OUR PRICES TO COVER CREDIT CARD FEES.

YOU WANT THE BEST DEAL......YOU GOT IT

If others do not charge this stuff on paper .....then trust me it is already built in....

I bought allot of guns from a good amount of dealers before I was a dealer. Some charge some do not.
Please tell me why you expect to pay $5.00 at a gun show?
Also tell me why that would not apply that to a store front dealer. Just wondering.
