Default Patina or Pitting on fire arm.

Question for the smarter members on this site than me

'Patina' is smooth, usually bluing gone brown with age. No metal missing
    or corroded.

Rust or pitting is rough, and metal is actually missing from the surface.
If it catches your nail or feels rough, it's rust or pitting.
