Scope recommendations....
I'd like to buy a scope for my .22lr. I don't have the rifle yet but figured I'd ask about scopes.
I'm mostly going to use it for target shooting at 100 yards.
What do yinz recommend?

Re: Scope recommendations....
.22's don't beat up scopes so you need not spend a lot of money. As a result, you can afford higher levels of magnification should you desire. But....what you do want is a clear lens as well as an adjustable objective so you can focus at closer ranges where .22's are usually shot.

I hear these are pretty good, but I really dont know much about optics. I was recommended one of these for my FAL.==============
“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquillity of servitude than the animating contest of freedom, — go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen!”

No adjustable objective lens......
Adjustble objective scopes will have an adjustment ring on the muzzle end of the scope on on the side. It will enable you to focus from about 7 yards to infinity. Without it, any range that the scope is not in focus will be blurry or have parralax (and shift your point of aim if you don't have a perfect hold on the gun).
Some cheaper, but decent scopes can be found here:

Re: Scope recommendations....
Crosshairs are pretty thick, but the ratings are good. I'd feel comfortable with that.
Adjust the eye piece on the rear until the crosshairs appear the blackest/sharpest.....then adjust teh front ring until you have a clear sight picture. Move your head around on the stock. The crosshairs should not move.

Re: Scope recommendations....
Very good tip Lycan! Most (non adj objective) rifle scopes are set @ 100 yds for paralax.
Most (non adj objective) 22 scopes are set @ 50 yds for paralax (22s are normally shot at closer ranges).
What this means to the 22 shooter with a standard rifle scope mounted is that the crosshairs will noticeably "move" around when focused on objects closer than 50 yds or so dependent on your cheek weld/eye position behind the scope. At closer to 100 yds and beyond (where paralax is set) this will be much less noticeable.
A 22 scope (50 yds paralax) does this much less as it is designed for closer ranges though most of the 22 scopes available are pretty crappy in comparison to "rifle scopes".
An adjustable objective eliminates the paralax problem by allowing you to tune in to the range you are shooting at and also typically allows a sharper, more focused image, all else being equal.Guns are good.

Re: Scope recommendations....
Will you be shooting a semi-automatic .22 LR or a bolt action .22 LR?
