Default When you buy a gun on consignment do they charge transfer fee?

Bought a gun at a local shop that was on consignment. Was charged an FFL transfer fee. That seems kind of shitty to me. Has anyone heard of this before?

A transfer fee or a PICS fee? The PICS fee is a tax that is always added to a gun's price ($3 for the background check and then $2 per gun)

Apologize, the transfer fee. I was met with a price $30 higher at checkout. I've never bought off consignment. Thought it was odd.

In my experience that is not a common practice.

x2. A true consignment is basically their gun, without the overhead. Sounds like double dipping.

Sounds like it. I went in to pick up a pistol from gun broker. While my background was processing I saw the rifle on consignment. They said I had to pay another $30 for another background. I understand having to go through the background for a second fire arm. But not paying as that should have been in the purchase cost regardless. I'll head in Monday to see what they say.

That's BS. They could have just added it to the 4473.

Do you need a second background check for a second purchase at the same time? Paying the transfer fees on a consignment does not sound out of line to me but I am not at all familiar with the process. After all, it's not their gun, they are just selling it for someone else.

I think they've changed the 4473 so you can't do that anymore.

I always thought the transfer fee simply checked the buyer. Has nothing to do with the seller.

If their policy is to charge transfer fee on top of the sticker price I'll simply never send them another gun. If they don't normally charge for consignment transfers then it's clearly double dipping. In which case I'll be back here to put them on blast. I'll report back.
