North Carolina is our Exhibit A in what can go wrong when an entire state relies on fines and fees from low-level cases to generate revenue. A team of researchers from the Wilson Center for Science and Justice at Duke Law has released a new report describing three studies examining fines, fees, and driver*s license suspensions in North Carolina.

Fight the ticket. Doesn*t matter to me. There is a good chance if I am summoned to court, I*ll be on overtime.

I love when I hear *I will see you in court!* Okay, I*ll bring the coffee and donuts.

I noticed this study, and ones with similar conclusions, never mention what would happen if people didn't violate the vehicle or criminal codes.

As a new rookie, having a conversation with a training officer about giving breaks or writing tickets, he said if you write a ticket, they*ll call you a jerk off. If you don*t write the ticket, they*ll call you a p*ssy. Which one do you want to be called?

I bet you haven't heard that in years now. When is the last time someone got pulled over for a traffic violation in Philly?

I had a similar conversation somewhere around 35 years ago, when I was just starting. My take on it was, call me whatever the hell you want, happy motoring.
