    Default Springfield GI-45 1911

I saw this on Springfields site, and I want it. I'm not too much of a 1911 guy, so has anyone had any experience with this gun? I love the original 1911s and this gun is as close to that as I can get.

I had one years ago and wish I'd kept it. They're very nice for what they are.

if what you want is a bare-bones 1911a1, this is for you.
i picked one up right when they were released(early '03), liked it enough that a few weeks later i picked a second up.
they typically have a 100 or so round break in period were in you might have some malfunctions. my first on had a(single, one, 1) fail to feed with in that first 100rds, and then no other issues to date(over 2k rounds)
the seond has had no issues to date, it has something less than 1000 rds.
they are also very accrurate, if you can handle the tiny sights.
as a side note, they are a pretty close reproduction of the ithica made 1911a1's.

the serials started at 10,000, so you can see how popular they are.

Looks like the plain jane military spec 1911. Nothing wrong with it and if I had the chance I'd grab one.

Bought one as my first pistol...can't say a damn thing bad about it. If you're not one for plain jane iron sights, this wont be the one for you. However, if you want a gun that is reliable, fun, and one hell of a looker, this is for you..well, at least it was for me. YMMV

Decent guns. The sights are pretty poor and it can be a pain to blend a beavertail on later should you wish to do so (I shoot as high-handed as possible, so I get bit on occasion), but otherwise a good shooters and reliable.

I taught Chuck Norris to bump-fire.

I have always liked these guns. For a GI mil-spec gun, they are about as good as it gets. Colt is also nice, but more money.

I also shoot with my hands very high, and I also like a beavertail grip safety but for a range gun that isnt shot a lot, I can shoot these guns just fine.

The only thing I would really have to change is the sights mentioned above. There are a trillion sights out there that work much better but still look stock. Kings Hardballer sights are a little higher and can be had with three white dots, but look a lot like GI sights from the side view.

The Springer GI is a great gun as-is and is a awesome base gun for a build. Yost-Bonitz builds awesome 1* guns from these Springers and stock series 70 Colts.

Mine has been good to me. I've had it for a few years now. My plunger tube came loose and I had to have it re-staked last year, but then again the same thing happened on my $1000 Colt series 70 as well.

A lot of people seem to like the new Taurus 1911, but I just don't trust Tuarus. It is possible that both the Springer and Taurus come out of the same Imbel factory - can anybody verify this?

I was playing with the same piece a week ago. I liked it a lot except I need an ambidextrous safety. My next, and likely last unless something really different comes along, pistol is going to be a .45acp 1911. Well I've said the "last pistol" thing a while ago, but we'll see.
