With out being able to see it and from what you've stated it it sounds like an Inland which was a division of GM. Inland produced the largest quantity of Carbines so if it's correct with good wood I would ball park 600-700.

Two GM divisions made M1 Carbines, Inland Manufactuing Division and Saginaw Steering Gear Division. SSG made carbines at two locations: Saginaw, MI and Grand Rapids, MI. Saginaw took over management of the failed Irwin-Pedersen M1 Carbine contract and plant in Grand Rapids after I-P failed to deliver acceptable product. Parts on carbines made at Grand Rapids will be marked S'G' (S-prime,G-prime) whereas those built in Saginaw will be marked SG.

With respect to you question of value, there is insufficient information provided to properly place a value on the weapon. Valuation of M1 Carbines and US martial arms in general is very difficult without an actual examination of the weapon in question due to the fact that the vast majority of US martial arms from WWII were reworked at least once and perhaps as many as four times. M1 Carbines with a higher percentage of original parts bring higher market values.

    Photos would be best.

Check out the CMP sales site here: http://www.thecmp.org/m1carbine.htm

It will provide you with descriptions for different grades of rifles and associated values (by CMP standards)

Contrary to what most people will tell you Matt, this gun is worth very little, $100 tops. Are you coming to the pizza party today? I will be glad to take it off your hands for a profit to you of 50%!

Seriously, I have no idea, but I am sure it is worth a good amount.

IF this is the M1 Carbine you let me shoot at Toptin it is on a par with the carbines being sold by the CMP. Dollar wise somewhere around the $400.00-$450.00 mark

How did I miss pizza party in Lehigh County?

My fridge is empty so I have been procrastinating about making dinner.

while i would love to agree with this...the truth is there is no such thing as a even a $500 carbine in the real world, outside of teh cmp.
the only expection to this would be import marked guns.
at a gun shop you would be hard pressed to find one in the current market for less than $650..short of marked guns.
teh money people are paying for these is reaching insane levels.
it's only metal, we can out think it....

If it's in good shape, and folks weren't rushing gun stores like banks in the 1930's, probably around $600. However, right now you might be able to squeek significantly more out of it. If I had an M1 Carbine though, I'd never part with it.

Not to offend anyone, but I have to agree.

For those of you that remember Woolworths in Beaver Valley Mall, or GC Murphy's in Moon Twp - they sold milsurp SMLEs, K98s, others and re-imported US milsurp at decent prices.

I caught the M1 bug and decided to do a Form-1 M2, so I bought a late-war Inland M1 from them for like $130-150.00 IIRC.
(Gathered together all but like 2 parts for an M2 conversion - and the May 86 ban hit before I could send in the Form-1.
Sold off all my M2 parts and let the M1 go at an ExpoMart PGCA show for what I paid for it.)

The M1 was fun, but was a waaay-too-expensive to shoot plinker. Now if you reload - that's a diffrent story, I'm sure.
