Local couple hold intruder at gunpoint as he eats their food
    Staff And Wire ReportsMay 7, 2021 at 6:00 p.m.
FORT BRAGG * A local woman, 71, called 911 to report that an intruder entered her home and her husband was holding the man at gunpoint.

The incident occurred on Bayview Drive in Fort Bragg, the night of May 4.

Mendocino County Sheriff*s Deputies arrived a short time later, while the husband, also 71, was still detaining the intruder, Michael James Robinson, 39.

After an investigation, deputies deduced that Robinson, who is from Oklahoma, entered the home as the couple slept. He then removed his clothes and changed into the husband*s clothes. The couple discovered Robinson in the house as he was eating and drinking their food and wine in the kitchen.

Robinson was arrested for first degree burglary and booked into the Mendocino County Jail where he is to be held in lieu of $50,000 bail.

    Fatal shooting deemed self defense
The fatal shooting of a Taylor man in Southfield this past February has been deemed self-defense, resulting in no one being charged with homicide.

Joseph Marwan Brown, 27, was in the area of Nine Mile and Greenfield roads on Feb. 25 when he was shot. Police officers called to the scene provided lifesaving measures before Brown was transported to an area hospital where he died.

Investigators said early on that it was believed the shooting stemmed from a previous relationship between Brown*s girlfriend and her ex-boyfriend.

An Oak Park man and a Detroit man, both 21, were considered suspects and arrested a short time later about a mile away. They were subsequently charged with carrying a concealed weapon, police said.

On Friday, Lt. Shane Russell of the Southfield Police Department*s investigations unit told The Oakland Press that Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald was provided additional information on request before making her decision not to charge anyone with homicide in Brown*s death.

The Oakland Press has contacted the prosecutor*s office for additional information but so far hasn*t received a response.

Police: Man fatally shot during alleged carjacking in North Linden

    https://abc6onyourside.com/news/loca...k-ave-5-2-2021

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — Police say a man was fatally shot Saturday night while allegedly stealing a woman's car during an armed carjacking. The case has been forwarded to the Franklin County Prosecutor's Office for review.

Columbus Police said the shooting happened around 9:30 p.m. in the 1400 block of Oakland Park Avenue. Officers found 24-year-old Preston Allman suffering from a gunshot wound.

Columbus Fire medics took Allman to OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital in critical condition where he died at 10:09 p.m.

Police say he was shot while allegedly stealing a vehicle.

According to police, an unnamed 20-year-old woman was in a vehicle with a 20-year-old man in the parking lot of a carryout at 1482 Oakland Ave. when Allman approached while allegedly pointing a gun at them.

While driving away in the woman's vehicle, police said Allman pointed a gun at them a second time. That's when the woman reportedly pulled out a gun of her own and shot him.

Police say the man then crashed the vehicle across the street.

The department told WSYX Monday that investigators are still trying to determine if the woman was legally licensed to carry her handgun.

A grand jury will decide if the woman will face any charges out of the incident.

Police say they are withholding the deceased man's identity until the next of kin can be notified.

This case is the city's 65th homicide in 2021

Woman Holds Burglar at Gunpoint After Firing a Warning Shot
    May 10, 2021
Woman Holds Burglar at Gunpoint After Firing a Warning Shot
An Ocala homeowner was inside her residence when she heard a noise by her back door, prompting her to grab her handgun. Once confronting the would-be burglar, the man ran and she followed and fired a warning shot into the ground. The homeowner called deputies when he hid in one of the vehicles on the property.

The suspect who would resist arrest, Domonique Travion Hargraves, 28, was subdued with a Taser by deputies. He faces additional charges including loitering, prowling, and trespass.

Hargraves met his match, quite potentially his maker. The homeowner was certainly justified in grabbing her gun to defend her home, but things get blurry in terms of legality when a warning shot is fired, let alone chasing after the suspect. Once the suspect is running, the threat in a sense is not immediate. Fortunately, the suspect was arrested. On the other hand, she puts herself at risk physically and legally chasing the suspect. It is not known yet if the homeowner will face any consequences.

These actions should definitely be considered as to what is justified for your state. This is not Hollywood where the bad guy is halted after a warning shot. Let’s also not forget you are responsible for every shot that comes from the end of your muzzle. Firing a warning shot into the ground, or anywhere, does not guarantee a safe shot from harming innocent bystanders. It is important to have a plan for an immediate threat and consider the risk of further eliminating them once not significant.

Suspected burglar shot in Hollister home
Felix CortezSAN BENITO COUNTY, Calif. *
A Hollister woman woke up this morning to find a suspected burglar inside her walk-in closet and after giving him orders to leave and firing several warning shots she shot the man, hitting him in the leg.

*I'm dumbfounded over the whole thing,* said neighbor Richard Postigo.

The shooting happened around six Monday morning in a gated community known as Montebello estates on the 33-hundred block of Cienega road just outside Hollister.

The man shot is 18-year-old Ocean Burger. The shooter is the homeowner and mother of two young children; her husband says his wife went into mama bear mode when she decided to arm herself.

*That's what her mother and aunt were telling me that she was, protect my kids first,* said Postigo.

Investigators say Burger was armed with several knives and a machete when the mother confronted him inside her closet. They say Burger ignored orders to leave and when the homeowner fired several warning shots he allegedly advanced towards her, that's when the mother fired at the accused burglar hitting him in the leg. And California law may be on her side.

*There is a presumption that favors the homeowner they're presumed that the person is in imminent fear of either death or great bodily injury,* said Ellen Campos, assistant district attorney for San Benito county.

*You got somebody nuts in the head inside your house I don't know if he had a knife I thought I heard maybe he had a knife you just can't stand still and do nothing,* said Postigo.

Investigators say they will not recommend any charges be filed against her.

The quiet gated community with white picket fences, manicured lawns and million-dollar homes is the same neighborhood where a husband murdered his wife in 2017.

Sang Ji, 50, was convicted last year of bludgeoning to death his 48-year old wife Yoon *Clara* Ji and then dumping her body down a ravine on Salinas grade road near San Juan Bautista

Firearms In These 11 Cases, a Firearm Saved the Owner or OthersMay 11th, 2021 5 min read

Late last month, President Joe Biden used his first address to a joint session of Congress to push for major gun control initiatives, often using blatant lies and mischaracterizations in the process.

One of Biden’s more egregious mischaracterizations was the common trope that the nation is experiencing a “gun violence epidemic.”

The plain data simply does not support such a claim. The rates for gun homicides and nonfatal gun crimes remain far lower today than in the early 1990s.

This is so even though gun sales have skyrocketed and many states have loosened restrictions significantly on the right of ordinary citizens to carry firearms in public.

Biden also neglected to explain what the data does support—a reality where Americans routinely rely on their Second Amendment rights to protect themselves from crime.

Almost every major study on the issue has found that Americans use their firearms in self-defense between 500,000 and 3 million times a year, according to a 2013 report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. We have good reason to believe that many of these defensive gun uses aren’t reported to police, much less make the local or national news.

For this reason, The Daily Signal each month publishes an article highlighting some of the previous month’s many news stories on defensive gun use that you may have missed—or that might not have made it to the national spotlight in the first place. (Read accounts from 2019 and 2020 here.)

The examples below represent only a small portion of the news stories on defensive gun use that we found in March. You may explore more by using The Heritage Foundation’s interactive Defensive Gun Use Database.

April 4, Pikeville, Kentucky: Police said an ongoing property dispute took a violent turn when five neighbors attacked a man and his wife. The confrontation was caught on a surveillance camera, which appears to show three women and two men begin to assault the couple before the homeowner draws a handgun and shoots one attacker in the arm. Police arrested all five of the homeowner’s neighbors, who now face assault charges.
April 6, Alamogordo, New Mexico: When a man stole a cab from a hotel, the cab company used the car’s GPS system to track the thief’s movements through the rural county. Police said two of the company’s owners used their own truck to chase down the stolen cab, forcing the thief to pull over and run. The owners chased after him with guns drawn, then detained him at gunpoint until police arrived.
April 7, Jeannette, Pennsylvania: A mother used her firearm to successfully defend her teenage son from another teen, who shot him in the hand during an altercation. Police said the teen fired several rounds at the woman’s son and continued to chase him with a gun as he ran away. The boy’s mother returned fire, hitting the shooter in the thigh and causing him to flee. Police said they arrested him and charged him with attempted homicide.
April 11, Wilmer, Alabama: A man fatally shot his father after he began assaulting the man’s stepmother. Police said the father was armed with a handgun during the altercation.
April 12, Alkol, West Virginia: A naked intruder who police say may have been high on drugs broke into a residence around 2 a.m. and was confronted by an armed homeowner. The homeowner fired his shotgun at the intruder, wounding him. The intruder was expected to face burglary charges, police said.
April 17, Beech Grove, Indiana: A good Samaritan with a firearm came to the aid of a Walmart security officer after a suspected shoplifter threatened the officer with a gun. A man who had a concealed carry permit drew his firearm and shot at the suspect, who fled. Another witness tackled the suspect outside and detained him until police arrived.
April 18, Lakehead, California: A man on a boating trip with a friend heard gun shots and screaming. Police said someone with a handgun had approached a group of others, used racial slurs, and opened fire, wounding two. One person in the group pointed out the shooter as he walked away; the man and his friend used their own firearms to detain the shooter until police arrived. He was being investigated for hate crimes.
April 23, Hartsgrove Township, Ohio: A homeowner used his firearm to fend off an armed man who showed up with two others and demanded that the homeowner turn over property. Police said the would-be robber fired first and the homeowner returned fire in self-defense, wounding the robber.
April 26, Walled Lake, Michigan: Just after midnight, three intruders, armed with a club and a knife and accompanied by dogs, tried to kick in a family’s door while shouting racial slurs and threatening to kill the residents—a mother and her two young sons. One son called 911 as his mother, who is black, retrieved a gun and fired at the intruders through a bedroom window, sending them running. Police said all three were arrested and face hate crime charges. The woman’s husband, at work at the time, told reporters that his wife “did what she had to do” to protect the family.
April 28, Tucson, Arizona: Police said a woman was physically assaulted by her boyfriend in a bank parking lot but was able to run away and approach a bystander for help. He allowed the woman to get into his vehicle as the boyfriend approached and, in the resulting confrontation, he drew his handgun and fatally shot the boyfriend.
April 30, Colorado Springs, Colorado: After a man began strangling and threatening to kill her, a woman retrieved a firearm and shot and wounded him. Police said the two knew each other, but did not disclose their relationship to protect the woman’s identity.
Rather than mischaracterizing the facts on shootings as a way to push for more restrictions on the right to keep and bear arms, the president should share the facts about how often Americans use their firearms in lawful defense of themselves or others.

We certainly can do more to address underlying factors of shootings in America, especially when it comes to suicide using a firearm. But as the stories above show, ordinary law-abiding Americans have a lot to gain from exercising their constitutional rights
