Default Who pays for the damage?

Was just watching DEA (yeah I'm a "cop show" addict... ehh well) anyway they raided 3 houses and destroyed them, ripping holes in the walls, destroyed the front doors when breaking in, dumped all the food in the sink, tore up couches... etc. in the end they left with nothing, no drugs or money, 1 gun, and noone was arrested

So who pays for the damage done during the search? I would estimate at least a thousand to fix the walls, replace the food, front door, gate on the door, etc, probably more.

I'm watching the same thing! In all honesty, I think they left the place looking better than what it was originally! As for who pays for it, isn't that what insurance is for? And if you don't have insurance, you pay for it, right?

If they have a warrant I don't think LE has to pay anything, but there are ways to go about a search. It's one thing to do a thorough search, it's another to destroy personal property that does not have to be destoyed in order to conduct a proper search.

"IF"??? Don't the need a warrant period to come into your house to search for something?

Sorry boss, I don't have insurance so I can't look at the policy to see if they do or don't.

better not have a warrant issued to search your house then!

Just looked around a bit. Yeah the owner of the house is responsible to pay for any and all damages to the dwelling that is raided, regardless of if anything is found unless they hit the wrong house.

Does that include your ammo expendened due to a raid on a wrong house?
You know how ammo prices are lately.

I doubt the police would refund you the price of the ammo you fired at them... it couldn't hurt to ask though

Well then I don't have anything to worry about then. Just moved up here and don't really have that much for them to destroy. And if they decide to open up the walls, they better have a jack hammer because I have concrete walls!!!
