New Zealand Stores Ban Knife and scissor sales.
Apparently the New Zealand total gun ban on semi auto rifles and pistol carbines were not enough. After an Islamic extremist grabbed a knife off of a shelf of a store and started stabbing people before shot by police, NZ stores are now pulling knives and scissors off their shelves. According to this article they are considering making this permanent.
New Zealand supermarkets take knives off shelves after 'extremist' stabbing
WELLINGTON, Sept 4 (Reuters) - New Zealand supermarket group Countdown said on Saturday it has removed knives and scissors from its shelves, a day after a man the authorities called an Islamist extremist stabbed six people in one of the company's stores.
"Last night, we made the decision to temporarily remove all knives and scissors from our shelves while we consider whether we should continue to sell them," said Kiri Hannifin, Countdown's general manager for safety.
"We want all of our team to feel safe when they come to work, especially considering the events of yesterday," she said in a media statement.
Other supermarket chains had also removed sharp knives from sale, local media reported.
Police shot https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-p...all-2021-09-03 dead the attacker, a Sri Lankan national who cannot be named due to court suppression orders. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said the man was inspired by the Islamic State militant group and had been under constant police surveillance.
Police were following the man when he went into the Countdown supermarket in New Lynn mall in Auckland. They said they had thought he had gone in to do some shopping, but he picked up a knife from a display and started stabbing people.
Police said they shot him within a minute of the start of the attack. Three of the six victims are in critical condition.
Ardern said the attacker had been under surveillance since 2016 because of his support for a violent ideology inspired by the Islamic State. By law the man could not be kept in prison, so he was being constantly monitored instead.
The government has sought an urgent lifting of the suppression orders so more details on the person could be made public. Ardern is expected to address the media at 0200 GMT.

I guess they don't have any Lowe's, HD, or Harbor Freight type stores in NZ. Those places are filled with killing machines.

It's a pretty good example of why the police won't protect you; they can't. They had cops WATCHING this guy, and he still stabbed 6 unarmed people.
Nobody is in a better position to protect you than you are, since (a) you have the strongest possible motive to prevent your own murder, and (b) you will always be right there when you are attacked, not waiting outside the store until you hear screaming.
The woke anti's say that a gun is useless to protect you, but what STOPPED this stabbing spree was guys with guns. Good to know.
As for tasking knives and scissors off the shelves . . . I'm OK with that. They did it with cigarettes and porn and high-end jewelry. Not as bad as the Brits wanting to end the sale of all pointy-tipped knives to anyone except licensed (and presumably "trained") chefs, taking us back to pre-Stone Age technology levels.
The lesson here is that removing all weapons is not a better option than identifying the loonies and locking them up.

What are they going to do if a guy takes two large paper clips, bends them to an L shape and then stabs people in the eyes and throat? Huh! Huh!

NZ to ban rocks and sticks next. They have been used to make dangerous implements of war... circa 10,000 BC

Re: New Zealand Stores Ban Knife and scissor sales.
To be fair stores already do the same in the US. Any decent knife you can stab someone with is locked in a case. You have to wander around to find someone and have them unlock it just to touch one.
The lame thin /stamped/ Chinese knives in the box stores on display in the isles (which would be hard to stab someone with if you tried) are in that GD clam shell wrapping. You need to have a better knife than they sell just to open it up.

Wouldn't it be more effective to deport all islamists? Let's see, mass shooting, mass stabbings and the common denominator = islamists.
