Re: USPSA in Holidaysburg
Show up, let them know your new. And they will take care of you. Great bunch of guys at these shoots.
Bring all the mags you got, and around 200 rounds.
And don't worry about how you do. We all suck from time to time. And most of us sucked from the beginning. But it is F-U-N.
I'll be there with Steve. I wil have the green PAFOA hat on. (Steve won't sell me his XD hat)
But be warned. Your going to get a taste. And it will seem like forever till we shoot again next year. But this will give you some idea of stuff you may want to get for next year. Come join us. It is a blast. You can shoot with us, we screw up all the time. So no one will notice your new.The American Revolution would never have happened with gun control....

Re: USPSA in Holidaysburg
I want to start doing some kind of pistol shooting like this more than at the group shoots....my only qualm is that I really don't want to do it with my subcompact XD.
Maybe I'll consider trading it off for a service model to someone or at a shop or something...

Re: USPSA in Holidaysburg
I shot IDPA and USPSA most of the summer with my Subcompact XD and my Crossbreed Supertuck holster.
I got some weird looks, and took some ragging from the guys. But, it made me realize that if I ever have to use my firearm to defend myself (my subcompact is my every day carry piece) that I should do quite well. In fact, I actually out shoot a a couple of them. That shut some of them up.
With that said, I finished out the year shooting my full size XD and went to a OC style holster. I wanted to see how different it would be. My scores did improve. So, as far as the games are concerned. A full size pistol is better. Heck, I almost considered going to a tactical XD for the extra inch. But I have decided to stay with the XD I have.
BUT.... Don't let a pistol keep you from competing. It is the practice and camaraderie that makes these shoots fun. Just show up and compete, and then expect to never want to stand around and shoot bullseye targets again the rest of your life. The American Revolution would never have happened with gun control....
