Default Saw Something Strange at Work

I work at a restaurant in South Philadelphia (the sixth district) and noticed something a little out of the ordinary. There were two PPD officers ordering take-out at our deli-counter and after I got closer something seemed off. One of the PPD officers had his duty-weapon tucked into his pants. There was no IWB holster, literally just tucked into his belt. After he left I asked one of the cashiers if she noticed and she said at one point he was just holding it in his hand while ordering take-out. I'd never seen anything like this before and it definitely seems like it would be against some sort of protocol.

The owner was probably cuffed and proned out on the sidewalk outside and they got hungry while waiting to hear the results of running the serial number.

I've read about other ppd cops carrying this way. Was he holding the gun or resting his hand on it though? Standing there, holding it in his hand would be, let's just say, really bad form. We could have an OC meet and greet in Philly and all just carry, literally.

Holding it in his hand. From what I heard it seemed like he didn't know what to do with it and was holding it until he shoved it in his waistband.

Carrying a Glock without a holster?? Isn't that an LEO just itching for a Plaxico or a case of The Glock Leg? ( I assume it was Glock, since that's what PPD issues)

Did you look to see if he had another handgun?

Were they plainclothes, or in uniform?

I can't imagine they would be permitted to carry that way in either instance, but especially not in uniform.
My first thought was that they found a gun, or someone turned it over to them, and he simply had no better place for it at the moment.

Geezus what a professional. I'm a drywaller and have a hook for my screwgun on my tool belt. You'd think he could find some sort of accessory or device for carrying a loaded hand gun.

They were both in uniform and it was the only gun that he had on him. I did notice that he didn't have cuffs, OC, a baton or anything else that would be on a duty belt so my initial thought is that he has some sort of desk job. Even if that were the situation for him to be carrying without a holster seems pretty reckless.

Makes me think that it wasn't loaded and more likely what I initially assumed.

He could have asked for a bag to put it in.

I have seen PPD carrying without a holster before too. I cannot comprehend why they do it though.
will that extra 15% matter? not as much as being able to put one in their face. ~Edg
