    Default Backpacks - Level 1, 2, and 3? What's the difference?

Does anyone have any recommendations of backpacks they are using? I looked up and down for what "level 3" means in a backpack with no success. Anyone give me a direction or definition? I am looking to basically update the bugout bag I have currently to a backpack to allow me to be hands free. I would like the ability to connect my handgun to this much like a tactical vest option. Any advice or info would be great. Thanks!

There might be "better" or "newer" stuff around, but I like the Large Alice pack w/frame for a heavy load. Or a Medium Alice for light/medium work. Carry your handgun in a "tanker's holster" or the old style GI shoulder holster. That way you can drop the pack and still have your handgun with you. Carry your rifle in your hand or shoulder slung. Weapons, basic ammo load and protective gear stay with you e.g. your combat load! Sustainment gear goes in or on your pack. e.g. sleeping bag entrenching tool or axe/machete to pack

Large alices can be found on ebay for pretty good prices most of the time.
I offer discounts on freeze dried foods, knives and other prepping products.

I've been looking at this website for various things that I may be buying soon such as ammo cans. He also has several backpacks listed if you're interested.

dude, go with a real backpack. if you look like a tactical operator when defending the block, you will get shot first.

I own an alice pack. I own several 'tactical' packs that look semi civilian. Go to REI and get something legit like a Osprey Atmos or something. Sure, it doesn't have tactical features like molle and shit, but they're all pretty much the same, and backpacking packs are engineered much better.

If you want to stick with tactical, pony up the cash and go with Mystery Ranch or Badlands. If you insist on an alice, put on Molle pack straps and belt. That will run you about $60 for the whole package. Go ahead, put 60lbs in an alice and walk 10 miles. Then put in 60lbs in a 'backpacking' pack, walk the same 10 miles, and you will see the light.

I have a vintage dana design loadmaster that would work for any situation. backpacking with the kids, loading up an injured person, packing out an elk, or humping water or beer. I have a Mystery Ranch Wet Rib for inconspicuous handgun carry on my chest.

    my 2 cents.

This belongs elsewhere, as it has nothing to do with firearms.

Ask a moderator to move it.

How easily could a suitable 'backpacking' pack be attached to an alice frame? Everything I've ever read says the frames make the load ride 'better' for long distance.
