    Default Equipment Question

    Hello All;
    Would like to know your product recommendations on ear protection. My shooting partner is very sensitive to the percussion while in an indoor range.
    What models-brands? Thank you for your help - I am from Montgomery/Bucks County area if you have store preferences also.

    I have always liked the Howard Leight line of ear muffs. They have a couple different varieties to choose from and I have seen them at most sportsman shops. They are comfortable and seem to be of high quality. Someone will probably be a long with some other options, but either make glad you are interested in safety and hearing protection. Good Luck

    I like my Peltor Sporter headphones. They are powered, so you have better than normal hearing, but they cut off at about shouting noise levels. If just muffs don't give enough protection, I'd recommend adding some foam ear inserts. They have extremely high levels of noise reduction, are cheap, and fit any size ear.

    Re: price - I don't mind spending what is needed; but wouldn't mind looking at $200 or less. Thanks!

    You can spend a whole lot less then 200 to get good protection from the damaging sounds of gunfire.

    Go to your local drug store and look for ear plugs. Check the NRR (Noise Reduction Rating) and look for a high level. This should cost no more then a few dollars for say a dozen pair. Then buy or use an already purchased pair of earmuffs (25 dollars for relatively good ones, check the NRR). Put the earplugs in first, then put on the ear muffs.

    Problem solved.

    I bought a couple pairs of Winchester earmuffs at Walmart for 8 bux each, and they work fine.

    But I think I prefer earplugs, which you can get for about a dollar or less per pair. I like the little orange foam ones.

    You can also go to sears, mac tools, or snap on, places like that, they have earmuffs for when using air tools such as an air chissel,not that expensive and work great, just a thought

    I have trouble keeping foam earplugs in my ears. I have different size ear canals so I had my audiologist make me a pair of custom earplugs. As I recall it was around $100.

    I also own several electronic muffs. When that guy next to me is using a big boomer I use both and that is outdoors. I can't recall the last time I was at an indoor range. It was over 10 years ago.
