Question:: Kimber Ultra Carry II
A buddy of mine has put money down on one. The asking price is $800.
I'm not sure of the exact model, but am told it's unfired. It's a stainless steel model. Apparently it's a safe queen that someone is selling through a friend that owns a gun shop.
He says he thinks it retails for about $1,200.
I looked at Impactguns.com and their Kimber Ultra Carry II's go for $800 to $1,200 depending upon model. http://www.impactguns.com/store/kimber_ultracarry.html

Re: Question:: Kimber Ultra Carry II
800 used?
For a plain-jane Stainless Ultra Carry II?
Despite the name, the frame is still alloy, the title is misleading.
MSRP is as follows:
Suggested
Retail Price: $916.00 Stainless Ultra Carry II™ .45 ACP
$960.00 Stainless Ultra Carry II™ 9 mm
$1024.00 Stainless Ultra Carry II™ / Night sights .45 ACP
That means I can get a new one for $800 (no night sights)
Another thing is does it have the external extractor? The earlier series II guns had them, there were issues, Kimber went back to the internal by customer demand (Kimber customer service's words not mine) if it has the external, I'd pass.
If it has the night sights and the internal extractor, it may be worth the $800, but I'd haggle on the price."We shoot to stop. ... Unfortunately, death can be a byproduct."

Re: Question:: Kimber Ultra Carry II
wow my RIA is almost the same size, a few ounces heavier and less then 1/2 the price...
The first vehicles normally on the scene of a crime are ambulances and police cruisers. If you are armed you have a chance to decide who gets transported in which vehicle, if you are not armed then that decision is made for you.
Be prepared, because someone else already is and no one knows their intent except them.

Re: Question:: Kimber Ultra Carry II
Right, well by the time you send out a RIA Compact for:
Checkering of the front strap, which will require refinishing of the frame.
A properly fitted beaver tail.
Snag free night sights = cost of sights (front and rear), milling of slide, and refinishing.
Ambi. safety, cost of part + installation.
Possibly a trigger job....
Oh, and shipping.
Yeah, half the cost for an RIA Compact is about right.
Not saying that one needs all those things, but if you want them, you gotta pay for it."We shoot to stop. ... Unfortunately, death can be a byproduct."

Re: Question:: Kimber Ultra Carry II
Just FYI, but I had one of those, with the internal extractor, and it would not feed hydroshocks, only silvertips.
After their chief "gunsmith, a retired seal" asked me why I was feeding it JHP and NOT ball, I sent it back. It was returned to me with a polished breech face, and still would not feed hrdrashocks, OR silvertips.
I bent the recoil spring on takedown, and a new one was $50. I traded back to the guy I bought it from. I wont be getting any Kimbers anytime soon. My sig 245's have never hiccupped, and i carry one daily.

Re: Question:: Kimber Ultra Carry II
Ok, so then you have a 5", steel frame gun that still doesn't have night sights or checkering instead of a 3" alloy framed gun with all the trimmings.
Regarding the beaver tail, from the pics I've seen of the RIA Compact, there's gaps between the safety and the frame.
That's a poorly fitted beaver tail IMHO.
I'm not knocking the gun, RIA's are great for the money, but if you want more than a standard 1911, you pay for it.
So, if you WANT a 3", alloy framed gun, with a checkered front strap, night sights, ambi safety and clean lines...well you buy something else.
And just for the record, I think Kimber sucks."We shoot to stop. ... Unfortunately, death can be a byproduct."
