Default Have you had any unexpected "post purchase dissapointments"?

Probably most of us on this forum research a gun at great lengths before buying. But still, even when this is the case, we sometimes encounter unforeseen glitches and/or disappointments in performance soon after our first trip to the range. These can range from poor accuracy to major mechanical malfunctions. And I am not talking about the quality exceptions that can rear it head with most any brand, but rather problems that are inherent to the model.

I bought a GSG .22 AK some years ago. I was very disappointed with several aspects of the rifle's construction. In addition, the steps needed to disassemble it for cleaning were among the most bizarre I have ever encountered. Taking the rear stock off, for example.

My friend bought a Taurus model 709 9mm semi that he said is so difficult to break down for cleaning that he is seriously thinking of selling it. It is otherwise a great looking and very accurate pistol.

I had an older model Beretta .40 S&W that worked like a charm and looked very good. But after a few magazines I got wrist pains that lasted for sometime after the shoot. (yeah, I know - probably me)

Whenever possible I always try to borrow or rent and shoot a gun I might be considering but this is often not possible. Barring that, like most of us perhaps, I ask opinions from PAFOA members, read reviews form gun writers, and peruse various sites like Gun Review.

I have always compared guns to running shoes. You can't really be sure what you have until you have put a few miles in.

It is said that hindsight is 20-20, even when we do our best research.

    What disappointments have you experienced.

Nicaraguan hooker 1992 - $8 down the drain

I actually have a .22 kit for a very common SMG that has been pissing me off for years but I don't want to say which one it is because the manufacturer sent me some stuff to tune it up and I haven't done it yet. It is a hoot the 1 out of 100 mags it actually works. Just to P me off further.

I rented Streaker once to help build a barn. I got screwed. Angie's list booted him.

The magpul illumination kit is the biggest piece of shit ever. I had to use putty to secure to the inside of my hand guard. Everything else they make is fantastic, but man that kit sucks.

    Never regretted purchasing a firearm...

...but I sorely regret selling my SIG P226.

No serious regrets. I did purchase a CETME years ago that I had to put some money into to get running right but that's aways a chance with used/surplus firearms.

I have never bought a firearm through an online service. All of my purchases have been after touching, functions check, disassembly, etc... You can never cath everything but I do like to believe this has helped me avoid some bad purchases.

Gsg5. 22lr semi auto mp5 cone. Bought for 300 bucks used. Already had quad rail with scope, laser, front froward pistol grip, and cheap red dot sight. Light strikes was the first issue. Had new hammer spring put in. Then shot 200 rounds flawlessly, went to clean it. What a pain the ass. Shot another 200 rounds though it- cleaned it and lost a spring for the trigger. Been sitting in the safe now for 2 years. Scope, laser and front grips were put on 3 other projects

    Edit:after thought.
And it came with two 22 round mags, and had the (i dont know what it called) (connector/joiner) to hold the two mags togather. It put soo much pressure on the mags, they would fail to feed the gun.

That's messed up. Not the first complaint I've heard about them. They seem like they would be such a neat .22.
