Default Question for the media: Is there a rifle that is NOT "high powered"?

Just wondered...seems every rifle in a news story is a high-power rifle. So, there most be low-power and average-powered ones...but I have never heard of one described by media.

Hmmmm .....22 rifle is not a high power rifle ....but they come in rifle's, so that might just fit the bill for low or average

maybe the media is referring to the high power "scopes" which in terms makes it a high power rifle ....an so on, etc.

High powered was probably a marketing term long ago, now used by the media.

Growing up, we had two rifles in the house, a .22 and a .308. The .308 was alternately referred to as "the deer rifle" or "the high power rifle".
Thus my concept of a high powered rifle has always been a rifle of the .30 family, like a .308, 30.06 and larger.

Never thought of a low power rifle, but that would be a rim fire .22.

In between I guess you got your carbines, medium power (though I never heard the term). .30 cal, .30-30, 9mm and .45 carbines.

Honestly I am not familiar enough with the AR 15 platform to say where it falls on the line but I am sure someone else does.

(Oh and I still have that .22 and the .308 that gave me my name)

Police rifle is not high powered. Unless they leave it somewhere or it is stolen.

Depends on what you arecompareing to. Compared to a bb gun all guns are high powered.

If there's one thing I learned about that rifle is that it never runs out of bulwets.
