Default Hey 1911 guys... need help

Just went to the range and figured I'd burn off the 8 rounds I've been carrying for close to 4 months (give or take).

Had 3 failures to eject and 1 stove pipe.

When I was looking at the brass it looks like there is a mark on the main part of the case and then another on the rim. Both marks looked like they were hit fairly hard, the rim mark almost looks like it ripped away a bit of brass.

Anyone know what could cause this? I only shot 8 rounds (all the ammo I had on me that I wanted to burn

Gun has performed fine before, never had an issue, think it was just that the brass has been in there for months?
The first vehicles normally on the scene of a crime are ambulances and police cruisers. If you are armed you have a chance to decide who gets transported in which vehicle, if you are not armed then that decision is made for you.

Sounds like some short stroking or extractor problems.

So..is the gun new and tight? Is it dry? Did you replace any springs? Any other changes?

    Holding it like a girl?

Might be dry, I haven't cleaned it (or shot it) in several months.

Maybe has 500 rounds through it total, less then a year old.

I don't think I was limp wristing it although I may have been as I'm working on my grip

1911s tend to like a decent amount of lube on the rails. My normal carry weapon is a 1911 .45. I relube the rails every four or five days just to make sure it will work properly if it is needed.

There could be an extractor issue.

im no pro but I second keeping the rails lubricated. every few days i put a drop or two on the back of each and rack the slide a few times.

What kinda 1911 are we talking about?

5" or Commander length or a compact?

If the gun is dry it could happen but probably not.

It could be a extractor that is clocking too but I would think that you would have exhibited the problem in the past.

How old is your recoil spring and what # is it?

    What mags are you using?

    What ammo?

Need more info to try and help.....

    RIA Officers size

Recoil spring came in the gun, maybe a year old tops and less then 500 rounds (maybe 1000 slide racks... I get bored a lot)

Mag was a Wilsons Combat 7 round

    Ammo is Quick-Shox from Triton.

I'm going to try to put some WWB and see how it fires. I think it may have just been the rounds but we'll see.

I somehow knew you were going to say RIA or Compact, didn't realize it would be both.

It very well could be as simple as ammo if you have not had issues in the past. It should run fine on Wilson mags, I trust 47d's with my life.

Couple things to look for if you were feeding JHP's

Check your feed ramp and see if it is by chance to shallow as it is pretty common in that pistol.

Check to see if your extractor is clocking, though the pistol should not stovepipe because of that. It can cause you to get brass in the face which is very common on compacts.

In 1911's that are less that 4.25" long they can prove to be less than reliable
as it is really stretching the Browning design.

I don't own any Rocks but from what I have seen Ray and Ivan at Armscor are top notch in the CS department.

Did you have any problems before with the same ammo?
