What is the worst pro gun-control argument you have ever heard?
I have been dragging myself throughout the interwebs trying to find out just what the anti gunners really think. I have seen some remarkable (albeit stupid) arguments for the case of gun control. I'm sure many of you have been in the argument with either a friend, family member, LEO, etc. and I just want to hear some of the ridiculous things that you have been told.

When I was saying to my very liberal sister about gun control only disarming legal gun owners, she said ''well you have to start somewhere.'' She just don't get it.

Re: What is the worst pro gun-control argument you have ever heard?
There is certainly no shortage of terrible gun control arguments.
I think the ones I find the most frustrating however are the ones where the individual clearly doesn't understand the technical details of the subject they are talking about. People who think that hollow-point rounds are meant to pierce body armor. Pretty much any use of the term "assault rifle". So on and so forth.
It's one thing to have a philosophical disagreement over a particular subject. It's another to be spouting off things which are just flat out factually wrong.

Janet Reno sent tanks, agents carrying machines guns and tear gas on a mission to save the children at Waco.

1. The founding fathers only meant for militias to have guns, not individual citizens.
2. The only reason for a gun's existence is to kill.
3. Lead poisons the environment
4. If there were no guns, nobody would be shot and killed.
5. Just look at how many children die each year from gun accidents.
6. Columbine, Virginia Tech, Texas clock tower, DC sniper
7. JFK, John Lennon, Martin Luther King, Abraham Lincoln.
8. The days of the wild west are over. We are civilized now so there is no need for guns.
9. Makes it harder for the police to do their jobs
10. They make me nervous.

Re: What is the worst pro gun-control argument you have ever heard?
The "need" argument is the weakest one I've seen.
"Aside from the police and military, nobody needs a gun."
If laws were all enacted on the basis of "need," most of these anti-gunners would find many of their possessions licensed or banned.

No one needs (that many guns, assault weapons, guns like police, more than 5 rounds, military rounds, military guns, military rifles, machine guns, . . . .)

The need argument is easy to diffuse, you don't need more than one pair of shoes, yet everyone has more than one. You don't need a car that can go faster than the speed limit, but you do.
It is not need, but want, a want protected by the constitution. We sleep soundly in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm.
