    Default M&P 45 slide problem?

Hey I've noticed that on my S&W M&P 45 that the slide gets stuck in the pulled back position like when after all the rounds are shot. I can get it back to the normal position by pulling back on the slide slightly and pushing the slide releae button down but can't just pop the slide back when pushing the slide release button.

It seems the groove is too sharp and may need to be filed down so I can just press the button to get the slide back to normal positioning.

I wanted to know if this is a defect or a problem? Before purchasing the M&P 45, I rented the M&P 9mm and I was able to just release the slide by pressing the button. Is there anyway I can get this fixed?

is this a new gun? the slide release are USUALLY tight as hell on new guns.

I'd say its fairly new. I got it last April but I've only taken it to the range a few times.

so basically you're saying you're having a hard time getting the gun to go back into battery when using the slide release?

if that's the case, it's probably because it's still stiff...shooting the gun will loosen it up.

my M&P was tight, but not as tight as my XD...

Yeah, but that ain't right. My M&P was butter right out of the box.

I'll let someone else comment, but I bet a couple light passes with a fine stone would fix that problem.

We'll see what the experts say.

Please excuse my ignorance, but what exactly are you meaning by "battery"?

I'd post a pic but I don't have my camera right now...maybe tomorrow.

I know this will probably start another argument, but S&W specifically calls it a Slide Stop - not a Slide Release. ...there is a design and usage difference.

And to back it up with the M&P's, they suggest a combination of the slingshot and pressing the down on the slide stop.

Bottom of page 16, even though its in reference to loading the gun. Still would apply for letting the slide back on empty chamber.
"Pull the slide to the rear, press down on the slide stop to release
the slide and allow it to carry fully forward."

Are you talking about while you have an empty magazine still in the gun, or after you've inserted a loaded one?
