Newly licensed ...now a question
They gave me a brief summary of do's and don'ts when I got my license today and I've read a lot more online. One thing is confusing me a bit about schools- does this mean I can't wear it or even have it in the car?
For instance if I'm dropping off or picking up my fiancee's daughter? Or need to walk in to sign her out early? If I want to drop her off and then head out to the range do I have to go home and get the guns afterward? It does say this at the end: ...or is possessed for other lawful purpose.
Does my LTCF meet that definition? Seems like a lawful purpose but...
Thanks for your thoughts on this.
My experience getting licensed:
Got it today at the sheriff's office in Norristown (Montgomery county.) 8 days start to finish: my local PD took 4 business days to do their check. Then I just took the forms to the sheriff, wrote the check, got the picture taken right there. Walked out with a nice driver-license size LTCF. Took about 20 minutes today.
Anticipating getting the license I had a private lesson with NRA certified instructor and former owner of Classic Pistol John Ricco yesterday. He's very good and very experienced. Also, the new owner Bob is friendly and helpful, as is the whole staff. (If you're near Southampton, Bucks co. stop in sometime.)

Rick, do a search on school carry or read one of the stickies which go into detail about where you can and cannot carry.
Short version is no or prepare to be the first test case. Details by others.
welcome to the site.

As has been stated in other threads. Carrying on school property with a LTCF is a defense not an exception.. You might get arrested you might not. It's a gray area and up to you how you choose to handle it.

Re: Newly licensed ...now a question
Throw away the list of do's and don'ts you got from the sheriff and read the stickys in the concealed and open carry forums here.
As for schools, as others have stated it is a gray area. There are those who feel that 'other lawful purpose' would include self defense, but many also feel that the way the statute is worded it means security and LEOs carrying guns, and maintenance guys carrying hammers and screwdrivers. As others have said do a search (the search box is just above the big red banner about mayors) and you will have more reading material than you probably wantIf you don't know who your state legislators are go here:

put your zip plus 4 in the box in the upper right hand corner.

congradulations on your license. Use it responsibly, which I'm sure you will because you noted you took a class. Good for you!
