And sheet metal fabricators here?
I have a project I have been working on for a few months.
But I need single lengths of steel 14 or so ft long, maybe 4 feet wide approx 16 gauge.
Where do you get stuff like that? One shop I talked to said steel coils/rolls. Thats way to much $$ and would leave way to much left over. I need maybe 60ft per unit to make a box (think cargo bed).
Anyone in 'the industry' have any ideas? What exactly is is called? Coil? roll? is getting on off size (most places had 4x8 and 4x12 sheet) that difficult?
No, welding/riveting pieces together is not an option.
Thanks in advance.

Re: And sheet metal fabricators here?
good luck.
standard width is 8'.
you've never seen the coils of steel rolling past on a train?
they actually roll sheet metal into a coil(think roll of toilet paper).
the average steel dealer doesn't handle the coils, just stock sizes.
most places only have shears 12' long.
you might be able to special order your stuff, but it will cost you. it would be special order all the way up the food chain.
and when you get it, you'll need to deal with a sheet that's 8'x14'.
in 16ga, it act like tin foil.
don't waste your time calling job shops. they will not want to handle it, and if they do, you'll just be paying somebody else in the chain.

Try the phone book or google metal suppliers. Here is a local place"for me" that may be able to help. The 14' long may be an issue.

Sheet metal shops use rolls of metal to create spiral ductwork. Give a larger sheet metal shop a call, they probably have a coil line and can sell you a length. I doubt it will be 4' wide though.

There's a place in Glassboro, New Jersey called Fazzio's you might try checking out sometime.

Sure it's a haul, but whenever we need some odd piece of steel for something they always seem to have whatever we need and prices are good too.Beretta 9000s 9mm

I worked at a sheet metal shop for 10 years. A standard size was 48 x 144 inches. I never saw anything longer than 144 that wasn't a special order/bar.
