    Default What Do You Use

With all of the theads about the issues people have with their computers, and Microsoft vs. Mac, I was kind of curious what everyone uses.

I have two, my desktop and laptop.

Laptop is Dell Vostro 1500. 15 Inch monitor, 2 Ghz Dual-Core Pentium, 2 GB RAM, Nvidia 8600M with 256 MB RAM, and a 120 GB SATA hard-drive. It's pretty good machine and runs COD4, Unreal Tournament 3, America's Army 2.8.2, and a few other games quite well. It's dual-boot, Vista Home and XP Pro, and even has an integrated webcam.

My desktop is custom built. 3.4 GHZ Pentium D (Dual-Core), 4 GB of RAM, NVIDIA 8800 GTS, 250 GB SATA, 19 inch LCD, Logitech G7 Mouse, Saitek Illuminated Keyboard (great in the middle of the night when I can't sleep). It runs Windows XP Home, and Windows XP X64. The X64, well, I run it because I can notice a remarkable improvement on games. It runs DVD ripping/burning software much more efficiently, and I am generally overall impressed with it. I run home on it, well, because I can't find any drivers for my Wireless adapter for X64.

So what are you all running?

These are my opinions, my opinions only. If you are offended, please, please, call Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton, I would like the notoriety.

    Dell E1705 Notebook:

    *17in LCD Screen @ 1920x1200
    *2 Gb Ram
    *120 Gb 7200 rpm SATA
    *Intel Core 2 @ 2.16 GHz T7400
    *Nvidia 7900 GS 256MB

XP Pro. Don't have a choice since the apps I support at work (and from home) are all made to run on Windows.

I build my own PC's using AMD processors and name brand parts. Had a couple Western Digital hard drives fail, but nothing else worth mentioning in the last 8 years or so.

I've since downgraded my types of computers to typical desktops(with decent video cards) and laptops from rackmounted servers and clusters for home use. Buying or building a new one pretty soon.

My travel unit = HP laptop Turion 64 X2 processor w/4GB of RAM.

Present machine at home = Athlon XP-M 2600+ overclocked to 2626mhz(aircooled), Radeon 9800Pro, yada, yada, yada..

    (4) dual processor systems clustered together via Linux. Used to supplement the house heating in the winter.

All that hardware and no LCD Screens? I'd be sporting a couple 19" flat screens!

As far as me, I run all Windows XP and IE7 (Mack Trucks and Volvo only support IE...LOL) I also run FireFox3 on my machines for personal use.

LCD's suck for gaming - have less fluid motion. Even the fastest response rate screens "smeer" or have other problems in fast action with lots of artifacts happening. CRT/tubes still rule the +30 frame per second and +60hz visual eye candy land that you need for smooth first person shooter gaming.
