    Default Policemans AD shoots woman

Sounds more like a negligent discharge to me.

Woman Shot During Esplen Bar Inspection
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Pittsburgh Police say a detective accidentally shot a woman inside a bar.

It happened early this morning at the Riverside Bar and Grille on West Carson Street in Esplen.

Police say a detective confiscated a gun from a woman and it accidentally discharged hitting her in the foot.

The 25 year-old woman from McKees Rocks was transported to Allegheny General Hospital with a surface wound to her foot.

    She was later discharged.

The detective, a 7 year-veteran, received powder burns to his left hand.

He was transported to UPMC Southside and released.

The detective is not being placed on administrative leave.

Authories were at the bar investigating complaints that it was a nuisance bar.

They found people inside after hours and also confiscated marijuana.

The same bar was the scene of a shooting in February that left eight people shot.

And the public views all police officers as firearms aficionados

Looks as if he was unfamiliar with the manual of arms.

    Be safe.

Exactly why I would have a problem with a police officer disarming me for his safety

    OK...
So I am glad that the ND did not kill or "seriously" hurt anyone. At no time is a ND a good thing. A woman did sustain a "surface wound" to her foot so My guess is a grazing. I hope it was not to bad but it realy could have been worse.
There is not enough information in this artical for me to make any judgement. Who knows what happend. Did the woman have a LTCF? Was she an employee of said bar? Was she leagaly OCing? (ok kidding about the last one) Any way you cut it I would guess that it was a stressful situation for the officers to say the least. No telling what the bar was like when they got inside.
Hope all is well for all partys...

I understand the fear of being shot by an officer while he is taking your weapon for "his own safty". In all honesty a trafic stop or a officer at your house is a verry differnt situation than a bar, where some one was shot last month, after hours with pot inside. This comes less than a week after an officer was shot in the strip by a man who had a LTCF. Shit like that will put you on the jumpy side. Just sayin...

I really don't see what any of these questions have to do with her being shot. If there was a struggle for the weapon you know the media wouldn't have left that out. So I think one can reasonably believe he had posession of the gun and was probably trying to unload it when it went off by itself trying to kill anyone near it. Because of the lightning response due to the firearms training of the officer involved(well beyond the training any civilian with a ltcf would have) everyone in the bar survived.

Just think, if that had been one of us that damned gun would have probably killed everyone in the bar. I kid folks, I'm not cop bashing, I'm media bashing. Move on, nothing to see here.

    Lots of "what if" here.

What if the gun was faulty?

A gun was confiscated, but there is no reason given. They don't mention her being charged, just treated and released.

I also agree with Cole. I don't want anyone touching a loaded gun of mine. Big payout for this lady.

I'm almost getting the feeling that the officer found out she had a gun and possibly disarmed her because he probably thought it was illegal to carry in a bar.
