    Default Any .38 super fans?

Anybody here a fan of the .38 super? Seeem like an interesting round.

Also is $859 a good price for a Colt 1911 in .38 super? This is NIB from a Colt dealer.

Not that i really need it , i guess i'm just bored at times and want to try a new gun/round.

    Thanks nyman

No input on the price but have 3 .38Supers and love all of them. It is quite a round if you get up into the upper range like the 125 JHP from Sierra moving around 1300-1350. This is only about 150 fps. behind the .357 MAG. and about 200-250 fps. faster than 9MM. The compensated game guns are sweet in this range but the stock Colt Commander is a little rompy. For carry you will get 2 extra rounds over the .45 and the reliability seems to be way better than the 9MM's in the 1911.

I own several .38 Supers and it is one hell of a round.
Many of law breakers and law officers carried the .38 Super in the days of Bonnie & Clyde. They came up with the round to shoot through car bodies.

It is a great round and in a slightly modified gun, not necessarily a game gun or race gun, it is a joy to shoot. Mild recoil and really accurate out to where my old eyes get bleary.

The price for a new gun seems OK but if you really want it to do well in your hands it might need a few $100s invested by a pro like Novak or EGW. For strictly informal shooting then buy and shoot, invest any other cash into ammo or reloading supplies. My advice is generally worth less than what you paid to read it.

    Kind regards,

IMHO one of the best rounds out there. It is fast and flat. I can help you on the Colt price if you give me a model... My guess is its a XSE Commander....
I love my Colt SCG in 38Super, great target and range 1911!
    Since we all love pics...

Thanks for the reply guys, yeah from the little research that i've done , seem like one heck of a round/gun, came on board in 1929 , made to takew down highway crooks, shoots flatter than the .45 acp more range etc.

In efffect a large 9mm. 9x22.2 mm. great, i might just get one .

The one i saw at the dealer is a fullsize brand new Colt in That Royal Blue Colt color, though i wouldnt mind one in a commander size.

Thats a beautiful gun in that pic.

I might delay my para ord LTC purchase and get the .38 super instead.

You wont be disappointed in either the Colt or the round. It also sounds like a great gun to build on down the road.

That's one of the things that makes the 1911 so great, if you have a good base gun you can make it perfect for you

I have two of them and love them. Very flat shooting and very quick to get back on target. I like the 130 and 147 gr bullets. If you get one, you need to reload for it just to get ammo. While ammo is out there, it's hard to find.

bob, i planned to reload, 2 years ago i bought a brand new reloading set up from RCBS but i havent set it up yet, i have everything in the set up just havent gotten around to it yet, maybe the .38 super will give me the kick i need to get going with reloading.

    Thanks, nyman
