glock 27 problems
Not sure where to start but here it goes. About a week ago I was out at the local range shooting my G27. I was shooting both 40cal and using a Lone Wolf 357sig conversion barrel in it. Took the gun home after shooting most of the day. Not one problem with it, no jams nothing.
Open the gun up last night to give it a good cleaning as its also my carry gun. Pulled the slide apart to drop out the striker, extractor and all the top end parts. I find that the titanium firing pin has the tip pretty well destroyed making me really doubt that I would be putting it back into the gun.
Called Lightning Strike which the parts are from and the guy on the phone tells me that "Oh the primers must be getting to it, Thats not covered under warranty."
Ok so maybe I am missing something here but thats what the striker does.....
and at just under $100 for a new one I wouldn't think it would look like I took a grinder to the end of it.
I don't shoot reloads out of it ever and all the ammo that I used at the range was either winchester 40cal or speer lawman frangible .357 sig.
I'm going to look at the primers on all the brass I shot thru the gun to see if it ruptured any causing it to damage the tip of the striker but other than that I am out of ideas.
Has anyone else seen this happen? Have you gotten it replaced under warranty by either the part vendor or the ammo vendor?
I'm just having a real hard time letting go of the fact that a $100 part that is supposed to "strike" the primer failed and the guy can't even warranty it.
I'll try to post some pics of it tonight or tmrw to show what I am talking about."Remember the first rule of gunfighting ... have a gun." Jeff Cooper

Re: glock 27 problems
Now THAT took brass balls - For the guy to say that!
Honestly, I have zero experience w/ any aftermarket firing components on the Glocks I have owned... I've always kept the pins/springs stock...
But if I were you, I would be beyond PO'd that someone told me the cause of the problem is that the "striker" must be "striking" the primers, and thus the waranty is not applicable - Unreal...
Best of luck getting it resolved - In the meantime, do you still have the stock part to drop back in for carrying?
Regards,
Bones

Re: glock 27 problems
It sounds like a company that sells a product which no-one actually needs, is trying to sell another one.
Use a stock part, and consider it a lesson learned. JMHO....

Re: glock 27 problems
Titanium may break, but it IS hard.
Is the striker wiping across the primer? This will chew a striker up fast and can indicate a worn recoil spring or other issue.

Re: glock 27 problems
The titanium striker as well as the plunger were actually in the gun when I bought it. I do have the stock parts to put back into the gun but thats not the point.
Upon further investigation it appears that the 357sig from Speer is loaded very hot causing 6 pierced primers out of the 20 rounds I shot from that box. Thats what damaged the pin so it looks like friday I'll be making some calls.
I did fire 50 rounds of American Eagle 357sig before switching to the Speer ammo and those primers look fine."Remember the first rule of gunfighting ... have a gun." Jeff Cooper

Re: glock 27 problems
Ti for a firing pin/striker? Seriously? Who thinks of these things? Sure Ti is light and strong but as Lycan said above it is hard. Hard as in brittle, add in the fact that Ti work hardens very easily and you have a recipe for what you encountered in no time flat, the pierced primers only accelerated the process. I would never trust a Ti firing pin in anything other than a competition weapon in which it is regularly inspected and replaced, certain not in anything I'd ever want to trust my life to. My money says to switch back to the stock firing pin/striker and this issue should all but disappear.

Glocks only need two accessories ....... better sights and ammo.

What was the company that didn't back their product? I'd never do business with them...
