Uh-Oh - Might be moving to Maryland
The Socialist Republik of Maryland that is.
I moved from there 11 years ago. Now my previous employer has hunted me down, and is offering a truck load of money to do a job I wanted to have back before I moved on....
My wife and I were making lists of Pros/Cons of relocation.
My first 10 CON items were "No CC" (repeated)
She said that didn't stop you in the 17years you were there before. I told her "why I have never done anything contrary to the law." Never !!!
I was shocked by the increase in housing over the last 11 years, but noticed a lot of Bank owned property. May have to live on the East side of the Bay Bridge.
What to do, what to do.......

Well, only you know all the facts before you...financial and otherwise. I can't imagine moving there and giving up my guns though.... Ok, maybe I wouldn't have to give them up but carrying them around...yeah, I couldn't do that.
We talked about moving there years ago though when my husband was thinking about taking the tests to be a Baltimore cop. Thank god he didn't go through with that.

Don't forget the state income tax, real estate taxes, county taxes, and the annual personal property tax on automobiles when doing your calculations. That "truckload of money" can evaporate pretty quickly.

Re: Uh-Oh - Might be moving to Maryland
It is always nice to have more income with fewer expenses. It may be nice depending on Eastern shore or Western shore , what kind of commute, the type of housing, are educational opportunities available , closeness of doctors and hospitals , etc, ? there is a lot of food for thought on what to do , I hope that you can put it all in perspective and study it out , before you make your leap!.

Re: Uh-Oh - Might be moving to Maryland
Yeah, we're looking at it all
Schools too !
Cost Of living is about 10% higher between WesternPA to Anne Arundel county.
But housing is 65% more. My 200K house here will cost me 330K there.
We have been spoiled by having a little room, we cannot live on 1/10th of an acre. So that leaves out most of the Western Shore all the way to Frederick.
Eastern shore used to be backwoods, but Queen Annes county is becoming Bedroom community to Balimore-Annapolis corridor. I do see some nice stuff there. Commute would be about 55 minutes, Ocean City summer bridge traffic on Friday afternoon is a factorLike I said, I did live there for 17 years in my younger years.
Wife has to be able to work close to home. But she works with the mentally retarded, and you can find them everywhere.
Schools for our 9 & 10 year olds. - big factor !
I wonder if my old shoot-em spot is still open over by Ft. Meade.

Don't forget moving expenses with the price of fuel these days.
Bottom line is: How much money are you willing to sell the gun rights you enjoy in Pa for?You can never have enough horsepower or ammunition.

Re: Uh-Oh - Might be moving to Maryland
First off, just left the Ft Meade Area in September last year. The traffic is horrendous between 8 and 9 AM and between 3 and 6 PM.
I know of a lot of people who live in Southern PA and make the huge commute. At the big Alphabet Soup at Meade they have a bunch of carpool vans that go back and forth.
On Target was still open in March when I visited the kids and the ESUTB.
Oh yeah, and the taxes suck.
It's the DPRM...Democratic People's Republic of Maryland. They wanted to be more like DPRK.

Re: Uh-Oh - Might be moving to Maryland
I heard that ! When I was there last, I had a couple friends that came in from York, PA. I just cannot do that Baltimore beltway everyday. My run would be US-50 to I-97 to BWI corridor. It flows pretty good except when you get off 97 at aviation blvd. And of course the US50 Bridge traffic on Fridays during the summer.
Wife and I are going to take a couple of days and do some recon down there.

If you move there..........
participate in local and state politics personally and frequently.
You could also tell the people offering you the job what one of your big cons is, no CC. Maybe someone there that wants you will have the right connections, but it also lets them know that states that arent right freindly arent bussiness friendly either.
