1 more question - must one undergo a background check everytime they're buying from a shop, even if it's just for ammo and accessories, or is it just for when you're buying a gun?
    Thanks for any help.
background check for every gun, every time. DO NOT BUY a gun unless a background check is performed. There's no check on ammo or accessories but they may ask for ID to verify age.

As far as how much a gun will cost, there's no good answer for that. Every shop marks up the cost to make a profit, in-state, there's 6% sales tax (+1 in Allegheny). Internet sales there's no sales tax but must be shipped to an FFL.

A ballpark on a new Glock 19 in-state + background check - taxes will run you in the $475-$550 range(probably on the higher end of that range) (roughly, I'm no expert).

Buying from a gunshop a background check is done for every firearm bought (long arms and handguns). If you buy multiple firearms at one time there is only one check done (other paperwork may need to be completed but only one check at the time you buy).

If go in at 9 AM and buy a rifle you have a check done. If you come back at 3 PM and buy a handgun, a check is done. If you come back at 6 PM and buy a shotgun another check is required. Basically if the ATF 4473 is closed out (all blocks filled out and all signatures rendered) then a new check is required. I just checked this with the PSP Firearms unit.

Now, if you come in and buy a rifle, shotgun and revolver at the same time, only one check is required.

If you come in and buy 2 handguns at the same time, only one check is required but 2 Application/Record of Sale forms need to be filled out because only one handgun can be annotated on each form (although only one 4473 will be filled out) and a ATF Form for multiple handgun sales will also be completed.

    Hope this helps.
