Dan Wesson Patriot 1911
I took a road trip to a few guns shops saw a stainless Dan Wesson patriot(I believe) 1911 in .45acp. It was just under $600 used.
I read they were descent for the price and comparable to high end Springfield, etc. but does anyone know what the quality/reliability is like?
It seems like some of the high end pistols with super tight tolerances are picky if not cleaned regularly. I am pretty anal-retentive about cleaning my guns but sometimes I come home, sit them down and end up forgetting about them till I'm on my way to the range the next time. The model I looked at had an external extractor, this doesn't seem common with the 1911s; are they any better or worse than the standard 1911 internal extractor?
Also, does the price seem reasonable for a DW?
I've heard of some people getting them down around $500 but I don't know if they were identical models.
I might pick it up in the next week or 2, but wanted to get opinions first.
I tried searching but didn't come up with much for DW 1911s
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
ThanksLast edited by j894; March 2nd, 2009 at 03:52 AM.

Re: Dan Wesson Patriot 1911
i've never owned or shot a DW pistol but my understanding is they are top quality and reliable as any other 1911. i was looking at one of their 1911's chambered in 10mm and the price was a 1000 bucks. i passed only because 1k was more than i wanted to pay at the time. 600 sounds like a reasonable price but i'm not familiar with the model so it's hard to tell if 600 is a good deal or not. you might try googling davidson's gallery of guns and see what msrp is for the patriot. that'll at least give you a starting point to figure out value.

DW makes some excellent 1911s. I have a Valor and it has never had a problem. Same can't be said for Kimbers, etc. If you don't purchase it et me know where the shop is ... I just might.

Re: Dan Wesson Patriot 1911
Sounds good,
I will definately let you know if I don't buy it.
Only thing that worries me is I believe this is a few years old, I've heard some of the DW series were cheaper guns and grew into expensive high end guns like they are now.
This is almost exactly what I'm looking at.
Wood grips with the golden seal, extenrnal extractor, 5" ss barrel, amb saftey, those slots machine into the front of slide.
