Unknown register of gun question
Hello to all,
I have a question, perhaps someone can answer for me.
I have a valid LTCF for Pa. I have an old revolver that was found in my Fathers belongings, after he passed away. I'm not sure if it is registered in his name or what.
My question is, With my LTCF am I allowed to carry this revolver, even if it is not registered in my name.
Thank you in advance,
Grizz

Re: Unknown register of gun question
There is no registration in Pennsylvania.
My unprofessional, non-legal advice would be that it is a valid parent-child transfer, and thus it's legal for you to possess. And thus carry. But I'll leave that question up to the experts. To me, the only question is the validity of the transfer.
Essentially, any "firearm" under the UFA that you can possess, you can carry with your LTCF.Safety is a good tool for tyrants; no one can be against safety.

Re: Unknown register of gun question
I don't know if it was registered in his name or not.
Would I get in trouble if they ran a check on it and it was registered to someone else other then me or my Father.
Thanks for the help.GRIZZ

Re: Unknown register of gun question
There is no registration of firearms in PA.
Is there reason to believe the firearm was not your fathers?
Even if it was your fathers, there is no paperwork necessary for "transfers" between spouses, parents and children, or grandparents and grandchildren.
It might rightfully belong to his legal estate yet unless the executor of estate/will named you as the new owner. Theres a couple folks here that are better at describing the estate/will/inheritance/intestate succession thing better than I am.
If it is rightfully your from the estate, and assuming it was your dads - you can carry it as you please with your LTCF.

Re: Unknown register of gun question
Thank you so much for all of the information.
My concern is if I were to carry it and the law did find out if was not registered to me or my father, that my LTCF would be in trouble.GRIZZ

Re: Unknown register of gun question
Its not that they are not supposed to have access to it, its that PSP and any other LEO aganecy are not supposed to use it for ownership.

Re: Unknown register of gun question
If in doubt there are ways to get it transferred into your name, assuming its not stolen. I'm a little foggy in the head at the moment, but it was just a subject matter here in the last month or so.
Hopefully PA Patriot will see the this thread and reply on that part.

Re: Unknown register of gun question
There is NO "registration" of firearms in Pa.
If the gun is stolen, you would have trouble.
If it was your fathers, and he passed it to you, no "transfer" is required.
Again, unless the gun is on the NCIC stolen list, there is nothing they can legally do.Last edited by Pa. Patriot; November 25th, 2008 at 12:08 AM.
