    Default Interesting conversation this evening

I stopped by a friend's house tonight after karate class, and we got on the subject of our "right" to "keep and bear arms". My friend says to me, "If you have the "right" to keep and bear arms. Why do they take your guns away and prevent you from buying more guns if your get a DUI?" (He's never gotten a DUI mind you.)

Basically he's telling me that the government is treating our rights as "privileges" rather than rights. He says it's your "right" to keep and bear arms, not a "privilege". He says rights can "NOT" be taken away, but privileges can.

    What say all of you?

    He's right.

IMO, I have the "right" to manufacture a full-auto rifle if I wish to do so. The fact that the US Government says that doing so is a violation of their laws does not mean I do not have a right to do as I wish in order to satisfy myself that I am able to protect myself in whatever manner I decide is best.

been saying this for years. when we allow the government to pick and choose who can have guns it goes from a right to privilege, like driving, that can be taken away. This is why we must fight against any and all gun control bills that are brought up for a vote.

I got a DUI years ago and they never took my guns away. They never even revoked my carry permit. It was a first offense and i was luckey enough to get on the ARD program.I was on probation for a while, but it was a non reporting probation,i never had a PO.I kept a low profile while i was on probation, but other than that its been a non issue as far as firearms are concerned.Still have my permit, still buy guns.I agree with your friend 100%,but it will probably never be that way.

I'm afraid your friend is right.

That is what the word s " inalienable right" means in the BOR, it means that it cannot be taken away. (violated)

A DUI is not cause to lose your gun rights, at least not in PA. You have to be adjudicated as an substance abuser, and a DUI doesn't do that.

Also if you are convicted of a 2nd DUI in PA, you are now a felon and can't own firearms...

Now I don't know when that changed, but it is there..

What other rights do you loose if you become a felon?

    Voting?
    Free Speech?
    Property?

Can't they take away your property?

The 2nd is not the only right that can be taken away correct?
