mosin cleaning problem

ok last 2 times i took out my one mosin it cleaned up perfectly fine with hopps 9. took it out today using same gun and same ammo as before went home to clean it and used a whole bag of patches and the darn thing just won't clean up for me that barrel still looks a little dirty and my hopps and dry patches are coming out bright blue. i even tried windex quick cause i heard the amonia helps against the corosive ammo i run also tried my otis cleaner oil nothing seems to work for it and i dont know why. any tips or tricks im kinda annoyed with it and stink of hopps lol. please help

Sounds like you have some jacket fouling. The blue is copper sulphate from the Hoppes reacting with the jacket material remaining in the bore.

I use Hoppes 9 Benchrest (dark label) as it's more aggressive at copper removal than the regular Hoppes 9 (yellow label). Sometimes it's necessary to leave a little BR9 in the bore to remove that last, lingering jacket material.

I've also tried "7.62" brand bore cleaner, I don't recall that it was a significant improvement over Hoppes BR9.

Also try a brush before wet patching, it helps loosen material and fouling that a patch might try pack down in the barrel, especially if you have a frosted or pitted bore.

Also, Hoppes has an odor that annoys the ladies, so I hose the metal parts down with brake cleaner to wash off the Hoppes. Obviously this means almost compete disassembly in many cases to isolate plastic and wood parts from the metals components.

i have brushed the barrel ill have to try the br9 and i still dont know a lady that likes hopps my fiance says she dont mind it but i think its a nice way of saying take a shower and get that smell off you lol

If you use any ammonia based copper remover, use a nylon brush. That stuff will wreak havoc on brass brushes. Sweets 7.62 will do well, also Barnes is good.

I just used the Hoppes copper fouling stuff on my C&R guns this weekend. I let it sit a day and then went back to re-clean them with CLP Break Free and I was getting the greenish blue on about 2 patches before it went clean. The guns were all getting clean patches before starting the treatment.

King had a post that reminded me to address the copper that may be in my old barrels. Kudos to him. They were all pretty bad.

Tightly plug the muzzle, stand the rifle on the muzzle ( needs to be supported), pour a good bore cleaner down the barrel from the chamber end. Let the bore soak for a day or two. Pour the liquid out and clean as you normally would.
Should remove any fouling in the barrel.

I don't think I ever cleaned my m44 to be honest, other then I run brush through before I shoot it(I had mud bug made the nest in one of my long gun once)..


But then I never actualy aim my M44 either. I just point them down the range(general direction of target ofcourse!), and shoot it. I just LOVE seeing that huge ball of fire...

I hope you are using non corrosive ammo then or you may have some serious problems.

I clean mine the second I am done shooting but I'm using the Bulgarian yellow tip ammo that I know is corrosive. I've been using this Bore Tech Inc. bore solvent I picked up at a show and it works well (of course that's after I run some Windex down the barrel.

hey pector the hopps copper fouling stuff you speak of just curious is that the benchrest stuff mentioned before in this post or do thay have even more options to buy other than that and #9 i always used to use clean bore on my pistols never realy used hopps till my one 22 wouldnt come clean lol
