Load Data by Barrel Length
I'm new to reloading, so I may be posting some newbie questions here in the next few months.
This time, I am wondering if there are any load data books published for various barrel lengths? I know that the length of the test barrel is listed with the data. But, data on an 8" barreled .38 Special is not going to be relevant for all of my pistols; in .38 Special, I have a 5.5" S&W, a 4" Colt and a 2" S&W.
I've got to figure that I am not the first person with this problem and somewhere, someone has extensive load data for each barrel length/caliber combination that I will load. If there is a book or two with what I am looking for, great. If not, tuning loads for the various pistols will be part of the trial and error involved in hand loading.

Re: Load Data by Barrel Length
The load data shown for a given barrel length is a reference point. For example, if the data was for a 8" barrel, that load, shot in a 5 1/2 barrel is going to travel a bit slower and the energy will also be a bit less.
I do not know of a book that has extensive load data for each barrel length/caliber combination that may be loaded. However some reloading manuals have ballistics tables that you can use to extrapolate that data. IIRC you can also get software to do this, but I don't think it is cheap.Ron USAF Ret E-8 FFL01/SOT3 NRA Benefactor Member
