    Default AR advice

I am thinking to buy an AR for SHTF purposes. I have no interest at this time of "building" one. I want to buy the gun and shoot the gun. I have been reading alot of AR threads trying to get some idea (I am really AR clueless) of what to buy. Here is what I want out of the AR in no real order:
    1. Reliability. I would like it to be as reliable as possible.
    2. Ability to shoot both 5.56 and .223 ammo
    3. Decent accuracy out to 300 yards Is 2 MOA asking too much?
    4. I don't need a lot of add ons etc. I would like standard sights and the ability to put a scope on. I am not a fan of multi-rails, etc, and have no interest in extra handles on the front, etc. Most of the tactical stuff I have seen in the threads is not for me. I would like a carrying handle option.
    5. Twist...I want to be able to shoot the heavier bullets.
    6. Simplicity is the name of the game for me.
    7. The dreaded requirement.... I would like to be able to do this under $1,000

I look forward to your help and responses.

A BAD AR shoots 2moa....most do better with decent ammo.

Even 1:9 twist will run bullets near 80gr.

Buy a Stag and be done with it.

well, if you want reliability, I'm gonna say it, go piston(here it comes, "F U Animalmother! DI's are just as good if not better, blah blah blah! Pistons cause problems and all that jive, my DI can beat up your Dad!") DI's are probably fine, you looking to use this thing in the third world? As far as your price range, doubt your gonna fine a Piston gun around a grand, unless its used. Anyhow, go with a rock river, stag, or one of the other larger companies would be my bet. That's the way I'd go if I didn't put mine together myself. Look to see who has what, M4 feed ramps, 1-7" twist, hammer forged barrel, etc. Since there is so much competition between all of the companies, no one can really fall behind unless they have an awesome marketing department.

If you want to be able to shoot heavier loads a 1/7 barrel is recommended. For the money look at the new Daniel Defense DDXV. Its specs are pretty impressive and they are gaining a very good reputation.

A good discussion about the rifle, by some guys that know their rifles well.

Personally, I would buy a 6920 for just a little more and you will have a rifle that will give you a lifetime of service regardless of what type of shooting you do. At today's prices, they make even more sense, than they did even a short time ago.

Man, that DD rifle has some nice touches for the cash... Great sights, Magpul ETG , hammer forged barrel, Pmag, rear sling adapter... WOW. Lotta value there...

That will be a tough rifle to compete with for the price (around 1k)...
