A long shot, but...looking for an IBM M1

So I found out today that IBM apparently used to make rifles during WWII (http://www-1.ibm.com/ibm/history/his...cade_1940.html). I found another thread that mentioned about an IBM made M1 in a pawn shop. My guess is that these are extremely rare since even GB doesn't have anything on it. Have you guys ever seen one? I'd love to get my hands on one since I work for them and would like to own a part of that history.

Thanks. Yeah, just found those after posting the thread. There are a few on GB and GA as well (not sure how I missed those). There seem to be only 1 genuine 99% IBM gun though, but it goes for $1500!

An IBM M1 carbine would be an excellent find.

I recommend mailing in an order to CMP for either a rack grade carbine for $495 or for a service grade for $575. It'd be a 3-6 month wait, but you'll get the piece of history you want.

Personally I'd order the service grade. Only problem is I don't believe carbines ship with magazines and if you plan on shooting it, ammo is expensive (more than most) and hard to find.

Between my brother and I we have over 40 M1 Carbs. obtained form the CMP. The cheaper ones seem to have more original USGI stocks and parts. Of the 40+, one is missing the front sling swivel. They offered to exchange it! The descriptions they have are VERY pessimistic, the rifles are in MUCH better condition than stated. Delivery is also better than stated. Delivery is to your door. No messing with a dealer or transfers or background checks. All you need is a copy of a birth certificate, LTCF, and a club membership.

Thank you for the information on CMP! It's unlikely that I will shoot it a lot, if I will shoot it at all. The website says "NOTE: Carbines are not sold or shipped with magazine".

Thank you for the information! 40 M1??? Why so many? Where would you recommend to buy the magazines from?

Mythaeus- finding one with 100% IBM parts is pretty much unheard of- and if you do, it's been redone. The way these were rearsenaled- or even repaired in the field- pretty much explains this. I've seen pics of the depots and field repair units with piles of parts- no care was ever taken to make sure of anything other than function. Look for one with the receiver marked as IBM, that should be satisfying enough.
I have 4 Inlands and a Saginaw, and have been looking for an IBM as well. They're not easy to find, and run 6-900.
I'm really, really jealous of SteveWag.......
