    Default Remington 7615 or AR?

    Hello all,

For some reason I've got the itch for a .223 rifle. Originally I was looking for something semi auto but the Remington 7615 caught my attention. Especially for $499.00 at Grice Gun Shop in Clearfield. The cheapest AR I've found was a new Panther for $1000.00.

Does anyone have experience with the 7615? The only difference between the two is that I can hunt with the Remington (but I really do not hunt).

I've looked at some WASR's also but wasn't impressed with them - sorry WASR owners.

Should I wait and see if AR prices come back down to reality? Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated!

This is a hard question to answer. I have never owned a rem 7615 but i do own ar's. I'm not even sure how you would compare the 2 other than they both shoot .223 ammo. Do you want a pump rifle that you can hunt with or do you want a semi auto that is about as close to a real m16 as you can get?

I am biased, i would not compromise. Whenever I have compromised, all I ever ended up doing was getting the gun I really wanted to begin with at a later date. I'd get the AR15---but again, i don't know what you are more interested in or what your financial situation is.

There is always the option to buy an AR15 lower receiver and a complete rifle kit. The total cost runs about $560-$600 and all you need are some punches and patience.

There are a ton of threads on here about building an AR15.

Well I took your advice. Yesterday I put a Stag Arms model 2 on layaway. I really thought about it and the AR was what I wanted! Thanks to all for the help!

Good deal. You will love the AR. Better start stocking up on ammo and mags. You will go through a lot of ammo the first few months. My sons stag shoots wolf mc without any problems at all. But still, even the wolf is $250+ per 1k rounds.

    I've never seen a 7615 for less than $675.

whew, glad you went with the AR.

Also, if you were looking for a .223 you could hunt with, I'd seriously consider a remington 700 bolt action model first.

Glad to hear Wolf works! I just found a few boxes of Brown Bear to try.
