Default Tips on Wood and Pellet stoves

We have electric heat in our home. I would really like to have a small wood stove for our garage to supplement heat in the winter and serve as a contingency should we lose power during the cold months.

To save money on gym memberships, I have workout equipment in my small garage so I don't use it for our cars and with this style of house, the icebox of a garage currently makes the room above it rather cold.

I don't need anything too big but I'm looking for tips and suggestions as well as any reputable shops in York county. I found some searching online and I plan to do more research but I always appreciate word of mouth as well.

I'm pretty sure you're going to need to stick with a wood stove. Best i can remember, the pellet stoves require electricity to power the auto feeder and fan. But, they are great because you can fill the hopper, set the thermostat and it will auto feed to keep the temp you want.

The bad thing about wood stoves is getting / storing / stacking the wood and keeping the fire going. Plus, you need to install a smoke stack / chimney higher than your roof line to stay within code. The pellet stoves can vent out the side of your house without a vertical smoke stack / chimney because there is a lot less heat going outside--it's kinda like a dryer vent.

i would suggest a wall mounted gas heater, no electric needed just gas, if you dont have gas lines run to your house already you can get a tank put outside and use it that way.... allot cleaner than wood/coal also...

the wood pellets as already stated use electric for the fan at least so that woudl be out, best bet would be wood or coal if you dont liek the gas idea... my buddy has a gas heater in his garage and keeps it at 50 all winter long, very nice !!
