Default which is better gun? 1911 or Hi-Power?

Eventho both 1911 and Hi-Power were designed by John Browning himself(well, HP was completed by Dieudonne Saive), and came about same time, similer mechanism(Single action), both are originaly designated as military gun, and served military almost same length(well, I think HP is still official side arm of many nations), and yet HP never gained as much acceptance/popularity of 1911 almost century after their introduction.

So I'm wondering which is better gun. Because as I understand it, HP design was an improvement over original 1911 design

I'm not talking about caliber, because clearly 45ACP would be better choice for man stopping caliber, but I'm talking about gun as gun as a piece of mechanical products.
I'm also not talking about ultra modern customs, like WilsonCombat or Yost custom, but original mil spec guns.

I don't know anything about the Hi-Power. Would be interesting to follow this thread.

IMHO, and mil-spec to mil-spec, the 1911 is superior to the GP-35.

I always liked the Hi Power but it's magazine disconnect is a deal breaker and the thumb safety is too minimalist, almost as if it were an afterthought, and not conducive to positive engagement / disengagement. The mil-spec 1911 thumb safety isn't the greatest either but it's much better than the Hi Power's.

The Hi Power does possess the best human engineering of any hi capacity 9mm.

I voted for 1911 but I think both guns are top shelf firearms!

I've owned and shot both considerably and IMO only, the 1911 is preferable. The grip angle is just more conducive to my aim.

Until they make a DA with a SA trigger pull it will never be superior to my way of shooting.

Personally I think that you need to have the option of calling them a toss up. I own and love both and wouldn't consider getting rid of either of them. I prefer the grip angle of the HP but considering that they are nearly identical in grip angle I don't consider that any type of major issue. I seriously could not call one "better" than the other, I think they're both great.

My summer carry is my High Power and in the winter I carry my HK USP45.
Over all I'd say the 1911 is the better of the two in stopping power.
You can go with a Para Ordinance and have a 12-13 round 1911.
