Default Rottie owners - a question about our beast

As you know we got Shelby, our 3 year old rottie about 3 months ago (actually maybe 4) and she has settled in well. No major problems (besides the fact she has endless energy) ... until today.

All of a sudden today she kept sneaking on and curling up on my couch. Caught her 4 times, one time she did it while I was in the room.

So WTF ... NEVER did this until today, is she getting "too" comfy in the home?

All dogs will test the waters, females even more than males,"you know how women are",tee hee. There can be only one (ALHA) MALE IN THE AREA.
When she is on the couch, point to the floor,"AUT"while pointing, and coax her to where on the floor you want her to go, gentley ,then love on her when she obeys.

A three year old dog is like a 19 year old person, she will test you,be kind !

my rottie (female) is super energetic..... until one day al the sudden she just wanted to sit on the couch and not do anything................. turns out she had lime disease. I have more than one dog and am an avid animal lover so such a noticable change was very apparent to me. she is fine now. tthey say very few dogs actually get rid of lime disease completely... she is one of the lucky few.
or she is just testing you.... cuz chicks do that

Well I do have to say of all the dogs we have had over the past 24 years she (Shelby) is on of THE most loving, affectionate animals I have ever seen ... even with the oops on the couches today she is still an amazing dog.

I let my dog lay on the couch. One of them. Not the other. Occassionally he tries to lay on mine. I just tell him no and he goes and lays on the floor or the other one.

If I had that kind of furniture, my dog would not be on it. Their nails will beat that kind of material up something terrible. I have a very old real leather love seat kind of chair. And no doggies go on it or the penalty is a VERY angry me.

My one couch is a couch bed that's beat up pretty good. Its been around for a zillion years and IDC how much he beats it up. Its a heavy cloth and he doesn't hurt it much. My other is comfortable and is a tan suede couch. He doesn't go on this one either... tan... black dog... not a good mix.

BTW super cute rotti. I'm a big fan of Dobies and Rotts. They are by far my favorite. I don't think I would own anything else.

I`m a firm believer of no dogs on the bed or furniture. It`s a leader role for me. You can train then to come up only when you say and then off when you say but I don`t even do that. Since I`ve been married the last 35 years allowing 2 or 3 dogs on the furniture also wouldn`t allow room for us.
